"Black Box Mortgages"?

Are unregulated, insecure computer programs running the home loan market, so a few companies can profit--while homes become unaffordable in vast areas of the country?

Does this put the US financial system at risk? Is the 2004 mortgage market like the 1987 stock options market, where computers were added but no one first thought about the effects?
