QUOTE (M @ Aug 25 2004, 09:52 PM)
In the meantime, I'll vote for Bush just to keep Kerry out of the White House. Kerry has a preliminary budget that approaches a $900 billion deficit for 2005 alone. Bush may be extreme, but he'll keep the country safe and pour money into the military-industrial complex (which pour money into all sorts of research avenues). Kerry will pour money into the social agenda rolls and promote more people to depend on the government for basic services instead of themselves. He's also relying heavily on extremist Dems for support, so E Kennedy and T Daschle will likely be pulling the strings. Not the sort of administration I'd like to see.
Bush ain't done Jack to keep this country safer. Things are far worse than they were 4 years ago. Zell Miller is a grumpy old man who turned against the Dems because he is bitter. Bush simply erodes our civil rights and takes away overtime pay and our health insurance. What you have said is the stupidest thing I have ever read in my life. M Posted: Aug 26 2004, 09:17 PM

No more crude attempts at jokes in politics from me for a good long time. Badnarik is alright but he doesn't stand a chance of winning any electoral votes from what I can tell. I'll go with Bush by default.
Kyle:
I concur that Bush is taking away from civil rights, though perhaps a change in attorney general will change that somewhat. Given that the Dems are promising the moon for social reform without easing up too much on the terrorist front, where do you think the money will come from? The Dems will go for your pocketbook just as quickly as the Bush administration will, but the Dems do it to ensure that the poorest people get loads of government services and always vote Democrat. Eventually, the wealthiest people are heavily taxed and told what they can/not do with their money by a government hungry to take it away from them. Tyrrany of the majority (by democracy) then begins to ensue.
Things aren't great, no one is claiming they are. But Wall Street overvalued telecom and internet stocks just like the Wall Street of the later 1920s overvalued steel, automobile, and certain other stocks. The main differences here are that the laws about who is responsible have changed and what happens to people in default. Remember, Intel and AMD are experiencing record demand for computer chips and small business startups are underway. Gore could have been President, Buchanan could have been president, Alan Greenspan could have been President, it would make no difference.
And if you look at the Democrats over the last 30 years, Zell Miller was the norm for Southern Democrats not that long ago. The problem is that they've gotten more and more extreme over the last few political cycles, as have the Republicans. Personally I think a moderate, independent candidate could take this election pretty easily, but no one like that will run. Kyle Posted: Aug 26 2004, 09:41 PM
Let me tell you something. I have had trouble finding a decent job. All I hear is "The economy is strong. And getting stronger." and "We have turned the corner." I have not seen the Republicans talking about Healthcare at all. Not once. Furthermore, I am going to graduate school and the Republicans in the state are privatizing. So, guess what, I am in a position where I don't need and can't afford the additional burden. And you may tell me that that is how it should be, but if you have to put one of your kids through college, or if you want to go back to school yourself, you may feel differently. So, I have an extremely hard time sympathizing with rich people because Democrats want to tell them where a small percentage of their money should go. Even if they the Dems do that, the rich still have far more power in this country than everyone else. You are not going to sell me on Bush, that is for sure. Another thing about taxes is this, the rich keep a huge chunk of money, while middle class gets maybe $300 back. But the property taxes go up, the cost of college education goes up, the sales taxes go up a lot more than $300.
As for extreme, what is extreme to you? What is extreme right? What is Extreme left? and What is moderate in your mind? I would be very interested to know.
