If they're arresting people simply because they're out in the street and marching, that's not gonna go well for the Bushidiots.

40. St. Mark's Place....
that is always an interesting 'hood, and it sounds like it's hoppin tonight :

11:08PM Police are now reporting at least 250 cyclists arrested.

11:03PM The show at St. Mark's Church is starting up. There is reportedly a band starting up and a crowd of people in the church courtyard. The buses carrying arrestees and many but not all police have withdrawn from the area.

10:57PM IMC reporters near St. Mark's Church on 2nd Ave. report police loading arrestees into buses and clearing the streets.

10:45PM Police report at least 54 arrests.

10:34PM Greg from Michigan IMC reports that many cyclists are attempting to escape the street closure by going directly through the barricades.

10:30PM Within the next half hour, Outernational is scheduled to play a show to a packed house at St. Marks Church within the next half hour. However, the church is currently surrounded by police. A NYC IMC reporter on the scene describes it as a "concert under siege."

10. Who is Foxy Brown, and why would she run over protesters?
7:41PM - The end of the ride just left! Front is at 30th St. and Broadway.

7:37PM - White SUV plowed through ride, created hole in ride, injured 1 rider, damaged several bikes, medics on the scene. Caller: "impossible to judge" size. White SUV driver was allegedly Foxy Brown.

7:31PM - At least 5,000. There is a really loud response from pedestrians, waving, riding, cheering "shut it down." There is great support, they are lining the sidewalks.

4. Times Square is not the location of Madison Square Garden.
I just mention it.

TS is on 42nd St. MSG and Penn Station between 7th and 8th at 33rd.

34th Street is a retail area anchored by Macy's. The RNC is a disaster for those stores. Next week is tax-free week and it's supposed to be a bonanza for NYC retailers. Not in that area it won't.

Come to think of it, I saw signs at 14th and 8th rerouting traffic, so merchants for a looooooooooooong stretch are going to be screwed.

Do me a favor? Buy a pair of socks or something?

It will have an alley of bloggers and free wireless whatever the hell that is if you bring a laptop or something.

Also, water and cheap snacks.

Aside from lots of cops, 42nd Street looks the same.

47. What's cool about that story is the mention of the locals who stopped
to applaud the bicyclists.

Now, if we could just consider this for a minute - WAKE UP, AMERICA - SHOULDN'T THIS TELL YOU SOMETHING? The mere fact that there are so many people amassing to protest against this guy - HELLO!!! Did you see anything even close in Boston - crowds of angry people there to diss Kerry? NO. You didn't. Because there AREN'T THAT MANY. By contrast, there are MULTITUDES who hate bush. And we're gonna see and hear from a bunch of 'em, I suspect...

Gonna be an interesting week just ahead. Wish I was there, too.

Anti-Bush Activists Launch NYC Convention Protests
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=6093243

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Thousands of cyclists brought traffic in midtown Manhattan to a virtual standstill on Friday in the first significant protest ahead of the Republican convention at which President Bush will be nominated to run for a second White House term.

Thousands of cyclists swarmed down Broadway from Central Park in a parade stretching more than a mile on Friday evening -- a time when the area is typically crowded with theatergoers and people out for dinner and drinks.

The protest lasted several hours, with many chanting "No more Bush," and was the first sizable demonstration ahead of the Aug. 30-Sept. 2 convention. Many locals in the mostly Democratic city stopped to applaud the cyclists as they passed through a bustling Times Square.

At least 30 cyclists were detained and handcuffed at various locations along the route after small altercations between riders and motorists who were irritated at the congestion, according to Reuters witnesses.
