Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 10:19 PM by zuzu98
O'Neill keeps repeating the lie that JK called "average soldiers" in Vietnam 'war criminals." Whines about JK meeting w/ the North Vietnamese in Paris, blah blah blah

Maher didn't really nail him on much. Got in a few swipes at Shrub ("furriner") but not a KO

He does it with such ease. He reminds me of guys involved in some sort of sleazy operation who then allow themselves to be interviewed by Mike Wallace. Or guys like O.J. who've committed horrendous crimes volunteering to take a polygraph test. They're so arrogant they think they can beat it.

30. I think * is going to have a Jimmy Swaggert moment at
the convention. And say he was wrong to rely on the faulty evidence. He laid the groundwork with that miscalculation quote in the NYTimes today. I think they think if he just admits he was wrong and hopefully a tear or two comes to his eye, America will forgive him.
I can just see the media fawning all over his sorrow.

115. There will be a "miscalculation" extrapolation
and all of the faithful will be saying, "Isn't he wonderful?! *swoon*" Then, when we point out the hypocrisy, they'll tell us, "That's what you wanted. What's the problem?"

As soon as I heard that discussion on Crossfire today, I wanted the guy from 'the left' to ask what happened to resolve??? This administration just keeps going merrily along, rewriting history, forget about the past, it's about all about the future, forget about the past, what we really said was..., it's about the future (and we're gonna FUCK YOUR ASS!! heeeeee haw!!!)

59. Hey, don't blame me for that pathetic excuse for a human being.
He's from Orange County - for years a hopeless republi-CON stronghold. Literally hopeless. He's horrible. Just like another one of our Orange County prides - "B-One Bob" Dornan (who, thankfully, was finally turned out of office. I'm in West L.A., and GRATEFUL to be a Henry Waxman Woman. California can blow it, bigtime (after all, we're the folks who gave you Reagan and Nixon (and Ahnold), don'tcha know? But we do a few things correctly, and Henry Waxman is one of them. George Miller, up north, is another. Same for Barbara Lee of Oakland, and Maxine Waters down here. And of course, there's Barbara Boxer - of whom we're quite proud. But Dana Rohrabacher - oh GOD, he makes me shudder.

141. I live in LA, but my wife was in Fresno recently...
and was driving with a "Regime change starts at home" sticker below our John Kerry sticker. She was at a stop sign and had some asshole in a big truck stopped next to her (you know the kind, the raised ones with the "never forget", Osama's picture with a circle and a line thru it, multi-American flags and an NRA sticker on them, driven by a guy with a mullet and a goatee), roll down his window and scream at her that if she didn't like it to "get the fuck out of my county." She had no idea what the hell he was ranting about until she notied our stickers in her rear view mirror.

I thought that love-it-or-leave-it shit went out with us "goddam peaceniks" spitting on the troops returning from the war-du-jour.

132. about Dana R.
I don't think you realize how conservative it is. This county was formed in the 20's by a KKK off-shoot. We are known as "living behind the orange curtain" elsewhere. We have homeowners associations in Irvine where you can't have your garage door open for than 2 hours at a time. Now, I live in a free area (county) or I wouldn't live here at all.
Dana has Hughes Aircraft in his district and he keeps them busy and happy. But the last few dems to run against him have done better each time...there is always hope.

124. That actually bothered me
Matthews also talked about Fox, and their ratings, when he appeared on The Daily Show. It seems apparent to me that perhaps Matthews knows he has to worry about ratings, and consequently, his job may depend on giving undue respect to issues like the Swift Boats crap. I mean, this is HBO, on a Friday night. Maybe he felt he could be a little more honest about things here and not as worried about giving balance to crap.

If there was real justice, the stuff Michael C. Ruppert and Wayne Madsen reported on at fromthewilderness.com would be covered nightly, not the latest John O'Neill rectal productions.

As far as 9/14/01 goes, I think Tweety gives credit for the figurehead aspect Bush brought that day, but that's it. Pretty shallow.

Matthews has been pretty consistant stating the Iraq war was a bad idea from the get go, as I recall. It's not like he proclaims it with a bullhorn every show, but it's been there.

Your post reminded me of something. Talking about fraternity life at Yale in Rolling Stone #954, page #66, Garry (Doonesbury) Trudeau said this about our current president:

"I do believe he has the soul of a rush chairman."

Not the soul of a president, but rather Eric 'Otter' Stratton.

Classic.

110. They tried that when Carville joined Crossfire

Carville took a job on Crossfire and started kicking butt, so the wussie Repubs announced a ban for anyone to appear on the show.

That backfired, so after they started looking like even bigger chickenshits they decided to cancel the show.

But it turned out that CNN's Crossfire was the oldest running show on the first cable news channel.. Too much attention that they are chickenshit.

So they just moved it to daytime when no one will see it.

They cant do that with Mathews, so its either he caves or they fire him.

I hope he holds his ground.

111. Dyson had some great points!
I would put him right up there with Maher and Matthews in terms of punch. Environment, terrorism, despots in the world ... the guy did great. Best line (roughly, regarding pollution and disregard for the environment in general): "American needs to wake up and smell the coffee or one day we won't be able to wake up and smell the coffee."

I agree on Banfield.

Rohrbacher reminded me of O'Neill. They are both read-only memories. They don't hear anything and they don't believe anything anyone says if it isn't what they already believe.

O'Neill took the story twisting (lying really) to a far greater depth than Rohrbacher. O'Neill is damned. He just hates Kerry, and it oozes out. Truly sickening. O'Neill is a walking abscess.

Mahar was very funny.

I don't know who he is either, but I thought he was EXTREMELY eloquent. Made his points effectively and quickly and didn't allow himself to be talked over. Bill gave to Michelle Malkin at the very end. She thought he was dismissive of her book, poor dear. :nopity: Was Bill pressured into that apology, do you think?

But really, there was a lot to think about this week. Lots of guests, lots of hot topics. But I hate O'Neill and Rohrabacher (sp?) with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. Could there be anyone more quintessentially, repulsively Republican than either one of them? And we saw both in one night. I feel a bit ill now, actually. x(

rock tonight! Hate to say it, but he actually looked appealing! I've ever heard him speak such blatantly honest remarks about this failing presidency. The classic, "why would you vote for someone to have a beer with, you're never gonna have a beer with the President..."

Tweety spoke REAL CLEAR about what he supports...maybe not so much John Kerry, but for CHANGE. I think he will be just fine in his job. I still don't think he will be on the band wagon for either candidate, he's just throwing out the policies that are more PROGRESSIVE. I finally think I understand this guy.
