7. and if the rule of thumb of 10:1 is accurate
...about 10,000 with horrible injuries.

11,000/130,000=8% of our troop commitment in Iraq.

there really needs to be more coverage of the men and women sitting in VA hospitals around this country, their lives, and the lives of their families, shattered.

the only place I read about it in the newspaper is on the comic page (Doonesbury)

22. Further thumb rulage:
The Pentagon claims a 98% survivability rate among wounded who receive medical attention within an hour. 10,000 x .02 = 200 additional dead.

8. Once we hit 1,000 is when the media will go INSANE
u haven't been hearing much about it lately, sadly, but once it hits 1,000 dead, as depressing as it is, is when the media will start pounding away at that fact

12. Will they?

The US media is not paying much attention to the Iraq war, they are all focused on the Vietnam war.

And they can always change the numbers. You know ... Deaths since the end of major combat.. combat 'related' deaths, or 'coalition' death numbers.

I thought the same thing about reaching the 1000 number too. It’s a terrible mark on our country.

But these thugs know they can get away with anything.

The US media will give the 1000 troop death story about one 24 hour news cycle

And then back to 'Election 2004' with all the campaign smears, then Scott Peterson, and wrap up with shark attacks in Florida.

16. We're on schedule for it to happen ...
... during the Republican convention.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't tell everyone to shut down combat operations just so the won't reach the "magic number" while the Republicans are having their party.

21. 1,000 won't be the magic number
When Kerry is inaugurated, the media's attention will turn to Iraq overnight. The death, carnage and ghastliness of war will be highlighted by the talking heads and the spin will be how Dumbya invaded the country, got rid of Saddam, turned over sovereignty, pacified the country, and NOW all of a sudden things are going terribly terribly wrong.

It will be awful and it will all be Kerry's fault

24. Yep, two a day
we're right on pace to hit 1000 11 sept. Of course nothing much will be said, and even less done about it. We passed this number a long time ago, the dead are being hidden. They can't hide them forever, I want to get religious just so I have a hope of everyone involved in this to face a judgement someday.
