OMG!! Fmr Tx Lt. Gov: "I got George Bush in the National Guard" VIDEO!!!
If this is a dupe, I apologize, but I was so excited seeing this I wanted to post it right away. I looked on the first two pages of GD and didn't see it.

THIS IS AWESOME. JUST AWESOME. The guy admits he got GWB into the national guard, he says he did it for a LOT of rich people back then, and he is totally ASHAMED that he did it!

Go here and click on the link that says "Barnes on Patriotism"

5. No pat answer to that question
What market?

National, regional, or local?

A huge media buy would probably have to be via an agency.

If you could connect into a Move-on type organization, lots of that might be in place.

7. The story is getting out
The Dallas Morning News had it yesterday, then a story on Salon.com. The NYT reported it, it's gone on the AP wire. A recent Google showed 134 hits for "Man Ashamed For Getting Bush Into National Guard". The story has crossed the Atlantic to the Guardian.

10. cool, but it's the video that really kicks ass!
it's one thing to read it, it's another thing to see the guy saying it!

Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be the most damning-to-Shrub video I've probably ever seen.

Especially since HE's the one who brought up the whole Vietnam thing. And it's THEY who have been trying to say "bush served his country honorably" and that sort of thing.

HA!

9. ABC has picked up on the story...
Ex-Lawmaker Says He Helped Bush With Guard
Video: Former Speaker of Texas House Says He's Ashamed for Getting Bush Into Texas Guard

The Associated Press

DALLAS Aug. 28, 2004 — Former Texas House Speaker Ben Barnes said he is "more ashamed at myself than I've ever been" because he helped President Bush and the sons of other wealthy families get into the Texas National Guard so they could avoid serving in Vietnam.
"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard ... and I'm not necessarily proud of that, but I did it," Barnes, a Democrat, said in a video clip recorded May 27 before a group of John Kerry supporters in Austin.

Barnes, who was House speaker when Bush entered the Guard, later became lieutenant governor.

The video was posted June 25 on the Web site www.austin4kerry.org, but didn't get much attention until Friday, when Jim Moore, an Austin-based author of books critical of Bush, sent out e-mails calling attention to it just days before the GOP National Convention starts in New York.

Bush joined the National Guard in 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War, and served until 1973. He has said he received no special treatment.

"...no speical treatment" sounds like another Bush lie.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040828/ap_on_el_pr/bush_national_guard_7
At that time, Barnes' lawyer issued a statement saying Barnes had been contacted by the now-deceased Sidney Adger, a Houston oilman and friend of Bush's father, who was then a congressman. Adger asked Barnes to recommend Bush for a pilot position with the Air National Guard and he did, that statement said.

25. Hot Damn! God bless Ben Barnes!
I didn't even know he was still alive. He was the "golden boy" of Texas politics in the 60s and 70s, and he has obviously not been afraid to grow his humanity and understanding since then.

...more qualified applicants (sorta like the 2000 election now that I think of it). Would it be possible to figure out who some of these men were and what happened to them? Something tells me a few of these guys might have fared a little worse than the little emperor.
