Bigger story than Barnes on CBS tonight.....the report from Iraq....
I NEVER watch network news, but decided to check out the Barnes story (we see it it MT after you guys back East)

I flipped between ABC, NBC, and CBS. I thought the NBC story on the spy was better than the rehash from ABC which was basically the same story as presented on Nightline last night.

Didn't see any campaing news except for CBS which showed Kerry as well as Bush .....(turned it all off for dinner at 5:20, so I may have missed it on ABC and NBC)

HOWEVER....I did see the Iraq coverage on all three...BY FAR, the best was CBS...While ABC and NBC mentioned the French hostage thing and a bit of bombing in Fallujah, Pedersen from Iraq on CBS came out and said the Iraqi Gov't is LOSING CITY AFTER CITY and recounted them all....Fallujah, Najaf, and the earlier one (I forget the name). They showed the militants still armed after the Najaf agreement--Allawi agreeing to every single one of the Sistani terms and told how Americans withdrew from them all, just as demanded.

Overall, it was a very blunt, Robert Fisk-like report! I mean, when he actually said that the Allawi gov't was losing every city in Iraq...I sure hope those watching CBS can put two and two together!

Question: will the Kerry campaign bring up the fact that Iraq may be LOST?

***
Not in the report...but if the Brit diplomats are stuck in Basra with 3 weeks of food left....I'd say Allawi has lost Basra, too!! (But we knew that already.....)

1. Well, when reality is standing there with it's foot up your ass, it's
pretty hard to ignore. The minute Sistani and al Sadr made that deal, it showed the entire world exactly how ineffective the Allawi government really is. And how the Iraqi people don't believe in it's legitimacy.

2. CBS is usually the best of the networks
and far better than the cable networks. Is it perfect? No, but it's usually the least biased of the bunch

3. I watched it also and I couldn't believe they were
being so blunt. I was very glad to see that they were. Iraq is still a mess and will not get any better until we leave. I hope Kerry brings this up. I still feel the situation in Iraq should be highlighted in his speeches. Many more of our military will be killed and goodness knows, many Iraqis have been killed in the name of liberation.

4. Kerry may not say that Iraq is lost, but I expect him to hit on this.
Allawi's ineffectiveness is part of the failure of the post "Mission Accomplished" operation, which Kerry has been attacking with regularity. Elections in early 2005, which dumbya has trumpeted are almost out of the question now.

5. They were hoping Allawi would turn out to be the next Shah of Iran.
Brutal, compliant to his masters and able to entrench himself in power. He has been brutal all right, with the might of the U.S. backing him.Otherwise, he is just about washed up.When he caved in to Sistani and Sadr his days in power were numbered.A strong man in that part of the world must not only be seen as brutal but able to enforce his brutality totally.Even a little whiff of weakness will be fatal.

6. They're turning
the corner.... eh GW??? Hopeless twit. Everything is normal in the world.... the U.S. is bombing... and everyone is running for cover. Now that this guy has increased the threat of terrorism 10x we can get ready to spend billions upon billions more just to be "safe" in George's world.

The fact that this guy can even be considered for re-election by the GOP is a testament to the fact that we are lost. Truly lost.
