I just returned from the march in NYC
It was an incredible experience!!! Easily 200-300 thousand demonstrators. It took us 1 1/2 hours AFTER the march began before we were able to march - that's how crowded it was.

1. More crowded than
the medicwhorea are saying. Watch the C-Span rerun and you'll see a BIG crowd.
Thanks for marching.

That everyone marching actually are registered voters who actually vote on election day.

3. NO MORE YEARS....
That was a popular chant. NO MORE LIES....The energy was sooooo intense. We controlled the streets....and the cops were completely hands off. It was democracy in action. Honestly, there was easily 200-300 thousand - It was an endless stream of folks. Men, women, children, babies....young, old.....what a march!!!!

44. C-Span covered people filing past Madison Sq Garden from
noon to 4:30. FOUR AND A HALF HOURS it took for that sea of humanity to get finished marching.

It was awesome to watch, just awesome. Glad you went, glad you were able to soak up the vibes, and glad you came and reported back to us.

47. agreed
It was incredible! The crowd was *ENORMOUS* and i can not stress that enough. We were in the same situation, waiting about an hour or so to even BEGIN marching! You guys saw it on C-Span ... 4.5 hours of people marching by MSG! That's insane!

I agree with bushalert's initial assessment of "easily 200-300 thousand", and news reports are slowly starting to bear that out. People were so damned friendly, total strangers engaging in conversations and hugs, people from all walks of life, and it was LESS about hatred and more about righting the wrong that took place in 2000 and getting our country back on track. NYC > ALL!!! I fucking LOVE my city!

We took back the streets today and we are taking them back permanently in November!

peace.

... paris

before we could "feed" into the main march on 7th!

36. We were at 19th
It took us over two hours to get to the Garden at 33rd. When we got to the staging area in the morning it looked like the crowd was going to be small, but they just kept coming in on all the side streets for several hours. That is why the movement was so slow. It was hot and miserable and I would do it again in a heartbeat. What a super group of peace loving wonderful Americans. The police were great, but they really had nothing to do. I was personally struck by how serious all the marchers were. They were clearly having a good time, but it was not a party time. This is an important mission they are on.

Went to the bell ringing at the WTC on Sat. eve. My first visit to the WTC and it was poignant, sad and beautiful.

Did not see any other Duers there. I was wearing a DU cap and got several nice smiles but no comments.

BTW I am from Ohio and made this trip to NYC just to be in this protest parade. At the ripe old age of 68 I figured it was time for me to stand up and be counted.

45. That's so wonderful.
I live about a mile and a half uptown from the WTC, Ground Zero, and still remember the scent of the smoke that was in the air for months. It would waft up every evening about 10PM when the wind would shift direction. I've passed by the site a lot, but can't really bring myself to spend a lot of time there. (BTW, before I moved to my current apartment, I shared a loft farther downtown that was right in the shadow of the WTC.)

Welcome to NY, and I hope you have a great time here, and come back often!

8. i'm glad the cops didn't do the whole stormtrooper bullshit.
that sort of intimidation just looks so ridiculous to me--mainly because i don't think it would detere the demonstrators. if i could have gone, i'd be there--stormtrooper or no stormtrooper. but i'm glad it was a peaceful march and the cops were cool about it.

15. NYcops aren't fooled by a twofaced snotnosed brat
in the white house. They know, see and feel what's happening in this mis-administration. I hope other cops around the nation pay heed to the huge message the NYPD sent out today. We the people are not the threat. Bush is!

they are having a huge fight with Bloomberg over contract negotiations and are protesting themselves. Most cops seemed at ease around the protesters.....

leaning on the barricade looking casually around.

The excitement and vitality of the crowd came through loud and clear on CSpan. Glad you had a great time.

25. We watched every minute of it
It was awe inspiring. I felt like I was back in the 60's. Thanks so much for being there.
I liked the very last guy, who turned and looked at the C-Span camera, flipped the finger, and said "Tell Bush he can kiss my royal ass." Someone else on tape laughed and said something like "Final word."

24. I watched the whole thing......
did some other "stuff", payed some bills, laundry, walked the dog, but C-SPAN was on all afternoon. I did check CNN headline news once in awhile to see if they'd mention it......and they (the dirtbags), didn't even hint there was anything going on in NYC. So who needs CNN anyway, you made me just so proud, I wanted to be there, I was so uplifted watching it. Just hope this is just a sampling of how many will turn out to vote and dump the devils agenda. Thank you so much, ya made me proud to be part of the fall of the *'s regime.

30. Everywhere in the country when Bush/Cheney show up for a visit
Groups of these very same Americans show up to protest. Everyday Americans from all walks of life show up in the dozens and/or hundreds to protest Bush/Cheney's war on the MiddleEast and war on America's middle class.

It just doesn't get reported in the mainstream news.

42. absolutely amazing march
my first protest of my young career! (*applause*) the atmosphere was so vibrant. I was with a group of drummers for most of the time and it was nothing short of breathtaking. Everyone was feeding off each other's energy, dancing, shouting, chanting and drumming. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life. My thanks to everyone who marched.
