THANK YOU NEW YORK!!!!!
To the protestors who, each and every one of them represented at least 20,000 of us who wished we could , but could not march...
THANK YOU!!!

To the police and firemen who casually stood their ground, watching for danger or an emergency where someone could get hurt...
THANK YOU!!!

To all the people who did the hard work of preparation for today's and next week's marches...
THANK YOU!!!

To all who donated the money to make these marches possible...
THANK YOU!!!

To the few journalists and especially to C-SPAN who interviewed and took pictures and gave HONEST reports...
THANK YOU!!!

And to the City and People of New York....
THANK YOU!!!

This is my 500th post.
I can't think of a more glorious way to spend it, or a more heartfelt way to express myself.
:)

2. I agree totally and how ironic (& noble) that NYers, having
weathered 911 and the subsequent REPUG raping of their city, should be the ones to have to stand up for all of us and to lead all protesters in the streets in massive protest.

8. Agreed! Well said.
Seems like a miracle, after all the fear and doubt.

What a beautiful statement of humans trusting each other, to bring that many together in a confined city space, SPEAK OUT, and have a wonderful day together.

You've summed it up perfectly, Mr/Ms Crow.

14. I totally agree
Excellent post.

I just want to add another heartfelt THANK YOU to the NYPD!!!
From what I've seen (barring any reports I may not have heard yet)the NYPD was exemplary today. They have restored my faith a little bit.

I heard a NYC cop being interviewed the other day and his tone sounded like they were more concerned with protecting peoples' first ammendment rights than playing storm trooper. I only dared to hope I was reading him right...until I saw how they handled themselves today.

THAT was the way to police a protest.
THAT was what Democracy is supposed to look like!

NYPD :toast:

I wish I had been marching there too.

You showed what peaceful protest looks like.

16. Any more protests?
During this up-coming week. Like on Thursday when Bush arrives.
This Convention needs a distraction WHILE it is in progress. Today will be forgotten in the media by tomorrow morning. It won't even be mentioned after tonight......unfortunately I see this will happen. Anyone agree??

17. No idea, but...
I don't think the march today was meant as a "distraction" as much as a voicing of the people's opposition to Bush's war and regime. I think characterizing it as a "distraction" kind of trivializes it a bit.

The "liberal" media has a short attention span when it comes to peaceful protests. That's not new.

19. Didn't mean it like that
At all....I thought the march was fabulous! It just would have been much more effective if it were held DURING the actual convention week while the convention is in progress. I know this is not practical but ....... ???

Just turned on the TV and logged on here. Please point me to the best coverage, threads. Was the coverage good? The day was AWESOME.

Our best chant: "N.Y.P.D. - WHERE'S YOUR RAISE?" Got the cops to smile. It was pretty funny.

*edit=spelling (tired!)

23. Credit where credit is due.
The cops were awesome. I expected riot gear, I really did; but they just chilled and watched us walk by. The whole thing was just great! I even got the impression (and this is *just* me) that the cops were totally sympathetic, if for no other reason than, hey, they just didn't want the convention around after all that's happened.

... paris

26. The cops were cool
Someone needs to report on that, on how cool the cops were. They were unflappable. And when they saw something funny they cracked a smile despite themselves.
