DID ANYBODY ELSE HEAR BUSH SAY HE FLEW FIGHTER JETS
Today after the CSPAN protest, my friend said Bush was being interviewed and said he thought Kerry was a hero, but that he thought he was a hero too because he flew fighter jets in the war!!! My friend heard on radio, could not recall who was interviewing Bush, it was just a soundbite.

DOES ANYONE HAVE LINK OR KNOW ABOUT THIS?

...in the new Time magazine article or in the Matt Lauer interview that will air this week. One or the other.

2. Well, he did fly F-102s for a while, I don't think that's in dispute.
There are people who claim he never flew one solo, but I rather doubt that...however another thing that can't be reputably disputed is that he failed to accomplish a flight physical in 72 and was 'grounded'...and that nobody in Alabama's ANG remembers seeing him show up there after he absented himself from the TX unit. Obviously I've never met the man (?) but from what I DO know, I'd sure as hell never ride in an airplane with him unless it had dual controls....

14. Actually, there aren't any records that prove he ever flew this.
As with the rest of his past, it is rather murky.

15. F-102 Starfighter
was designed as a high altitude, high performance interceptor. Its mission was to shoot down supersonic Soviet bombers ... the kind that was never made. (Our version of that was the XB-70 ... too expensive and too vulnerable to surface to air missiles and interceptors ... and besides achievements in ICBM accuracy made 'em kinda moot.)

A bird without a mission, the 102 was redployed as a tactical fighter. Its razor thin stub wings made it a poor choice for a low altitude, subsonic mission. Early models of the bird featured an ejection seet that fired the pilot through the belly of the bird rather than up through the canopy, a bad scene at low altitude. (Not one of the brightest engineering decisions in the history of American aviation.) We sold lots of 'em to the Germans, and the wives of German pilots referred to the 102 as "The Widowmaker".

But that pretty much applied to any of the "Century Series" fighters.

I imagine that therein lies one of the Shrubs motivations for bailing out of the service by any means possible ... the 102 would have been a scary ride for the Momma's Boy in Chief.

He might of been to Nam on one of his LSD trips and he could have possibly flew fighter jets when he had an outer body experience.

He's nuts!

17. I doubt that he flew by himself.
More like he sat on a pilot's lap and held the stick for a little while.

21. In the same interview, bush* said that if his unit,
was deployed to Vietnam, he would have gone.

What he didn't say, but damn well knew was:

At the time bush* was flying, the F-102 was obsolete and was not deployed to combat zones! Everyone in the Tang (Texas Air National Guard) Champagne Unit flying the F-102 KNEW THEY WOULD NEVER SEE COMBAT!!!

26. On this weekend's edition of
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 12:49 AM by Kool Kitty
the "Ring of Fire" show (on Air America), Mike Papantonio interviewed a veteran pilot from Texas (that served in Alabama). He said that W scored so low on the test that if they HAD needed pilots for a combat mission, he would NOT have been chosen. He also said that W never showed in Alabama, because he was looking forward to having W be there so he could have a fellow Texan (sic) to party with. (I can't remember the name of the pilot that was interviewed.)

And W got grounded because he missed his physical. Remember why he didn't get his physical? W said that his physician was on vacation when the physical was supposed to be done. WHAT SERVICEMAN GETS TO HAVE HIS OWN PERSONAL PHYSICIAN GIVE HIM HIS MILITARY PHYSICAL? And where is the fucking media coverage of this?

On the origianl subject of this thread-Yes, W did say that he flew fighter jets. He was asked about Kerry's service and he said that Kerry had served honorably and he should be proud of his service. Then W went on to say that he had joined the TANG and that was why he learned how to FLY FIGHTER JETS, and he was proud of his service, too. I heard it on TV Friday. I think I was watching MSNBC at the time, but I don't remember the show.
