Hey New York DUers, buy a cop a drink, they are working hard with

no love coming their way from either side.

I want to run up and hug all of them. I want to tell them that they were the best thing about 9/11. Knowing that they were in there saving those people then helped me through 9/11. The fact that now they are facing cancers (from the fumes of 9/11) and pay cuts in return is so offensive.

These guys DESERVE jobs, medical benefits for themselves and their families, a decent wage, it is the least we can do.

So if you are protesting this week and afterwards go to a bar to celebrate the day of dissent, ask around if a cop is there and buy them a drink curtsey of DU.

Today I thought that the cops all looked pretty laid back, all throughout the footage I saw cops reading signs and laughing.

At the very end of the coverage on C-span those two cops were pretty funny. One of the last protesters called out "George Bush can kiss my ass!" The 2 cops laughed and one said, "We started this morning with hundreds of thousands of protesters and we end with one guy telling Bush to kiss his ass." They seemed pretty amused by it, but they did look pretty beat. Standing still for 4 hours must be hell on your legs.

Anyway, if you see I cop or firefighter please be nice, they are getting screwed just as hard as we are, buy um a drink and make friends.

If I were back in NYC I'd spend one of the protest days doing nothing but fetching goodies for the hardworking cops and firefighters.

2. Well said
Take along an extra bottle of water ... the cops need to stay hydrated, too.

Wish I was there ...

3. I smiled at every cop I saw this morning and wished them good luck.

They're human. They're targets. They were trying not to be nervous. Two of them still ended up in the hospital thanks to that idiot stunt of setting the dragon on fire.

I think they showed Seattle and Miami how a competent police force handles massive protest.

My favorite mental picture of cops today was a bunch of them sharing out handywipes at Union Square. I didn't know that was part of the equipment, or what they had touched to make them necessary.

4. YES

I was thinking today that a great sign to have at the protest would
read "Bush Lied about WTC Air, NYPD/NYFD will pay the price!"
(maybe something shorter).

It's one of the many Bush scandals that fell off the radar map.

We need to tell these guys that we are on the same side.
