Why Are Repubs Such Pricks

Why Are Repubs Such Pricks??????

Tonight I was talking with a fellow employee who is a Kerry supporter about yesterdays Kerry rally in Tacoma Wa. I was telling him about a confrontation that I had with a guy holding a DEFEND DEMOCRACY....VOTE FOR BUSH sign.....I had told my workmate that in short I told the man if Bush gets in for another 4 years that within 4 years I would probably see him holding cardboard sign up on a street corner that would say....Lost Job....Love Jesus...Am Hungry...Spare Me Some Change...God Bless.

Another fellow employee from the otherside ask me what I had to support my statement....I said look at the stats that we have been losing Jobs in this country since Bush to over and it looks like we havent even reached bottom yet.....He then said WELL!!!! you really should blame Kerry after all he voted for NAFTA and NAFTA was the permission slip to outsourcing and that GWB had nothing to do with it....He said NAFTA was Clintons doing after all he signed it into law.......then he eluded to the fact that Bush wasnt to blame for 9/11 that the terrorist had been planning it for 4 years..Once again BLAME CLINTON..I brought up the fact that GWB failed to do anything about the CIA reports given him on Aug 6th while he vacationed in Crawford.....he eluded back to the NAFTA bit......When I said didnt George Sr negotiate and secure the NAFTA and has not George Jr supported NAFTA as well thus making them as much part of the problem as Kerry is from his point of view......he quickly said to me.......Dont you have to get back on the clock......

They really hate it when you put the truth about their candidate back in their face....dont they

1. (sigh) Why are Democrats such hippy losers?
The truth is: they aren't.

Not all of them, anyway.

Not even some of them.

Like I've been saying since I got here, stereotyping and character assasination are not the path to progress. Part of the reason this country is so pitifully divided is because we've stopped communicating with and respecting those with whom we disagree. It's all about shouting guys down and smearing them when they don't think like we do. I have no doubt many a Freeper has lamented, "Why are all Democrats such wimpy fags?"

If you seek to be different from your enemy, the first step is in avoiding emulating his basest behavior.

The next step is to find bridges that allow an exchange of ideas, so that pretty soon that guy you disagree with is not even an enemy anymore. He's just the guy you work with, he's an American, and he's in this just like you are, and though he won't always agree with you, he's still worth respecting as a citizen.

4. I disagree. There ARE more pricks in the Republican Party.
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 02:15 AM by Cat Atomic
And there's a reason. The Republican platform is about greed, hatred, and fear. That's what they sell.Their economic policies, their foreign policies, and most especially their social policies- on all these fronts, the theme is always "ME ME ME" and "fuck the weak".

That sort of approach attracts the pricks.

5. They do seem to have that reputation ...
I worked at the Democratic booth at our annual local street fair today.
We had great response, but many people declined to take a Kerry/Edwards yard sign explaining they lived in a Republican neighborhood and didn't want rocks thrown through their windows.

9. Hatred, hatred, as far as the eye can see!
And yet, somehow, we still have to live next door to eachother.

I've learned through experience that sometimes you have to check your politics at the door. Usually, if you show that you are willing, the "others" will to, and next thing you know you are standing around the backyard grill laughing and talking about that day's ballgame, and when you and your wife take the kids home for the night you really have to wonder what it was that was so important as to cause you to so violently hate your neighbor in the first place. Because in the end, he's not as different from you as you might think.

10. The reason I hate my "neighbor"
Is because he's busy supporting the rape of children in Iraq.

Seems like a good reason to me.

Fucking savages.

13. You haven't met my neighbor
the guy is hateful, he has the most disgusting anti-Kerry sign up that I have ever seen anywhere. My neighbor actually had some 'artist' paint a sign that is about 6 ft. high which he nailed up on his house, the sign depicts Kerry and says 'reporting for duty' and shows Kerry in front of an outhouse. :puke: You won't find me laughing with that guy and exchanging pleasantries and no one can tell me that kind of mindset is not just plain hateful!

18. Yeah, if only it could be like that
I have Republican relatives and my husband does too. We love them, but the way you describe it is only part of the time. The rest of the time, some of them are talking about their version of "Christianity," which includes demonizing and hating gay people, and the others are spewing Rush talking points about the horrible liberals or talking about how the white race is so superior.

We quietly laughed at them for years and tried to reason with them, naively believing they truly deep down believe in democracy and equality and war only as a last resort, as we do. But now we know they are authoritarians who don't believe in or even understand democracy. THEY are the ones that are full of hate.

20. um perhaps you should redirect your concerned remarks...
to the republicans. They are the most in deficit of manners on this continuum. I'm sure the freeper board would welcome your insights and thank you for enlightening them on the folly of their ways.

you're coming off rather patronizing and annoying here, and not really winning over many friends. In case you haven't noticed.

importances. Probably also, most repukes are basic fundamentalists when it comes to religion.

19. Well yes...
Clinton signed NAFTA right after it was pushed through the House and Senate by Republican backers. Let's not forget the free trade movement is one largely dominated by the right wing. (I, unfortunately, as an economist, am for free-trade also, which leads to some tricky political situations, personally.)

What I really wanted to say is...I find it somewhat amusing how, as you progress further right along the political spectrum, some of the more fundamental conservative traits take precedence over others. For example, mainstream Republicans loved NAFTA, but even free trade loses out to xenophobia and anti-immigration when it comes to Pat Buchanan and the slightly more extreme right-wing politicos.

22. They Have One-Way Eye Vision
Their opinion is the only one that counts (in their book). You could slap them in the face with the real facts and they still wouldn't understand what you're talking about - one-way eye vision and one track minds (narrow and closed).
