They are trying to pin Susan Collins on Newshour about whether she feels welcome by the bush/Frist/Dee Lay Republican party.

She says absolutely. Basically the GOP is one big tent for her. And all the time I was sitting on my couch saying, "You're a Northeast moderate. You're an outcast. You have a glass ceiling within the Republican party." She did look like she chose her words carefully.

Susan, you let me down but I still respect you even though you are a Repub.

1. I suspect we won't see too much of our female Senators at the

Convention. Olympia ought to be changing parties. She's a helluva lot closer to a Kerry Democrat than a Bush Republican.

2. Add the other Senator fro Maine, Olympia Snow to the tent

Both these Senators are the moderate touch left off the podium because they don't follow lock, stock, and barrel to any repukes. If there were anyone who should have been giving speeches, it should have been one of them.

Lincoln Chaffee would have changed over to a D or at least an I by now.

5. Out of all of those mentioned, I'd guess he'd be the first.

It's really rather a shame, though, that there isn't any room in the Republican party anymore for moderates. Anyone remember when party affiliation wasn't an immediate predictor of a person's beliefs? When there were all these northeast Republicans who were fairly fiscally responsible, but socially progressive?

I've always been a Democrat, but I think the world would be a better place if the other guys hadn't been so thoroughly hijacked by the radical right.

6. I haveno respect at all for Collins or Snowe

I would rather have democrats than these two Repuclicans. Collins in her race in 2002, was photographed with Bush,who came to help her, smiling and hugging. Poppy was there also.

It is time for Democrats in the Senate to represent Maine rather than these so called moderates. Snowe is old already and really is not that great. I will never forget her appearance on the floor of the Senate to argue for the Medicare bill. Complete with all sorts of charts. Yeah, she really was in on the scam that hurts, not helps Seniors. After that, she trotted around Maine,visiting senior centers, pushing the bill and telling these old folk how much good she had done.

7. Collins is on something...I'm not sure what.

But I spent a day working with Olympia about 10 years ago, building a creative playground in my town. She showed up in jeans, without her PR people, and actually worked with me building the slide. She couldn't hammer worth a shit, but I gave her an A for her effort. I wasn't as "sensitive" to politics as I am today, so I didn't get into a real heavy dialogue about it....of course, there's been a lot of water over the dam since then.
