7. Bush agreed with Vicente Fox on this last year and
even went so far as to agree that even people from Mexico who worked under a fictitious name would receive SS from the US. Now, explain to me how they can figure that out? It's like them saying that the highjackers were using phony names - then how in the Hell did they know who they were since they were blown to dust? This administration is just really f__cked up.

2. Think about this logically. To receive Social Security you must
1. Have a Social Security Number
2. Be a documented worker...(as in you aren't illegal)

So how could an illegal alien get social security? Technically they get free medical care in the form of state aid ...

If anything countless millions of dollars earned here in the US go to relatives overseas...Many undocumented workers send their earnings to far poorer relations...have been doing so for over a 100 years....my grandparents did the same thing until they got their kids moved over here.

8. You heard right........
I've heard it several times over the course of the last 2 days.

They wanna give these workers SS benefits but then they say there won't be enough for the baby boomers to get their benefits even. And the aliens would be eligible to qualify for benefits in 6 quarters when it takes 40 quarters for an American born worker to qualify. Seems unfair somehow. Some how the country has got to get a grip on illegals coming to this country. I don't know how to do it but it needs to get done.

Everyone who wants to come to America to share the wealth should be able to come. But it has to be done in some logical manner. It may mean some people will have to wait. There is a huge health care crisis in the border states. They can't turn the aliens away but they can't afford to treat for free either. So, hospitals and clinics are closing their doors. So no one gets help and care they need.

the quicker they can completely scrap it.

12. that's right........
then all these people who have no SS will need jobs to live and they can hire them for dirt. Part of their plan to make us a Third World Country. I fear we will not survive 4 more years of the putz.

4. I know a doctors whose family earned citizenship, filed for
SSDI and SS and then went back to India to live. They were
here all of about 2-3 years. And they get their checks forwarded to them from him. Legal, I don't know. True...yep

5. Ok did some looking and this is what i found..
U.S. and Mexican government officials are engaged in talks about a plan that would allow Mexicans who have been illegal immigrants to collect Social Security for the work that they did during the time they were breaking our nation's laws.

Origins: While
it is true the Bush administration is working on an accord that would allow some Mexican citizens to claim benefits from the U.S. Social Security system, two of the key points in the above message -- that this accord will apply to Mexicans who worked in the USA illegally, and that the accord can be nullified through the passage of a bill currently before Congress (HR219) -- are wrong.

6. You have to earn points based on income for Social Security
You can't earn points if you don't have a social security number....

You might be eligible for some programs should you become disabled, but they aren't that great even if you are here legally.....

Your social security benefit is based on pay in and points, (you do need so many points to be eligible at all as an adult), and averaged over your last five years of working I believe before retirement....so you could make a fortune (up to the cap of course), leave the country at age 40 - come age 56 1/2 your average pay-in would be zero - meaning your pay out would be nothing I think.

Sp I think the answer is: No that is not true at all really - except for those legally employed for two years very close to retirement that somehow have enough points (I'm not sure if that is age/wage/year of employment based)

9. Those are the rules for us; as you know Bush makes
up rules for others if he feels like it, and he wanted the Latino vote just bad enough to agree to this SS deal with Fox. But he also doesn't do what he agrees to, so he thinks he will get the Latino vote and then say "Uh oh, can't do what I said". It works for him all the time because the American people let it.

11. Why not? They work, they pay SS taxes.
They do the work that good white 'murkans won't do. They live in housing that good white 'murkans won't live in. They face arrest every day.

Blame the victim.

15. Precisely
Don't go believing the right-wing propaganda: it's not a gift to immigrants who haven't paid anything into the system. Unlike the INS, the IRS couldn't care less whether you're here legally or not, they just want your money, which is why they set up a program called the TIN, or Taxpayer Identification Number, for persons who could not legally obtain a normal Social Security Number (which requires that the person be in lawful status). The TIN allows the IRS to collect taxes even on persons who are here illegally. It is those immigrants, who have in fact paid into SS for years and accrued the requisite number of points in the system - just the same as you and I have had to do to qualify - who are the object of this effort to provide them with some of the benefits for which they have already paid. Doesn't that seem fair to you? Would you rather we just took their money and gave them nothing in return?

14. No, LEGAL immigrants can't even get Social Security benefits...
A good friend of mine from the UK moans about this all the time. Her issue is that she's here legally, pays massive amounts into the system, but will never be able to collect even a small portion of it.

I usually reply, "Hell, I've paid into it my whole working life and probably won't see a penny from it, so what's your gripe?"
