Are any of you afraid to put a Kerry/Edwards sticker on your car?
I guess you can call me a real whimp, but there are some real vindictive people here. I have a nice car that I take very good care of. I didn't want to put a sticker on the bumper and thought about putting it on the rear window. That way I could scrape it off with a razor blade without any damage AFTER NOV 2nd. I really am afraid someone will take a bat to the window. Am I such a wuss that I can't stand up and show who I believe in? I've gone to meetups for almost a year, donated to the campaigns, sent letters and made phone calls for Dean and now Kerry. Some of the natives are crazy here!

I'm not gonna let those thugs scare me. I put a Kerry/Edwards sticker on every God-damn thing I own, including: my door, my window, my roommates car, my schoolbag, my bedroom window, my computer, and my refridgerator.

I dare those damn thugs to ruin my things. They'll pay double if they damage my belongings. :grr:

A Kerry sticker would be redundant.

Instead I wear my "REPUBLICANS FOR VOLDEMORT" teeshirt. Lots of chuckles, lots of people thinking he'd be a better President than W. At least you'd know where V was coming from.

4. Yes, somewhat
Although I live in L.A. I worry about some goons smashing a window or something. Also, the sticker can be a bitch to remove.

Having said that, I'm appalled that ANYONE with a brain would put a War Chimp bumper sticker on their car.

5. In Massachusetts, not really.
There are some freepers here, don't get me wrong. But about every 5th car in my city has a liberal political bumper sticker, and there are plenty of Kerry/Edwards signs in windows and on lawns.

If I were you, I'd do what feels best. People are vindictive and cowardly. Vandalizing your car because they don't agree with your politics is an act of cowardice.

9. I don't think you're a wimp
You have to trust your instincts. I have three daughters and I have always taught them, "If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't."

Here in my little corner of North Carolina there are lots of lefties, so I feel right at home. However, when I venture out into the 'burbs or into adjacent counties, I get a little uptight.

Regardless, I display my Kerry/Edwards stickers proudly. I'm getting old enough where I don't give a damn about the nuts. Worrying about what they'll do causes me more stress than sticking it in their faces, so that's what I do.

And in the end, if one of them takes a bat to my windows, I'll just find one later with a "W" on it and smash his. Then I'll put a note on the car that says, "If you're pissed off, thank a Freeper."

So far nobody has damaged my car, and I get a lot of smiles and thumbs-up. But I live in Minneapolis, where Bush/Cheney stickers are pretty rare.

Americans should be as willing to talk about politics as they are to talk about sports and TV shows.

And putting a sticker on your car is a great way to start the dialogue.

and I have Kerry stickers on both of my work trucks. I will never bow down to a repuke. I believe in fighting for what you believe in not what they may think of you or do. I am proud of being a Democrat and proud of supporting Kerry and I don't hide it. I could not be in New York but I am a one man protest. I exercise my freedom of speech every where I go. And after Kerry wins I will still keep my stickers on and most likely add more for the repukes to enjoy.

19. do it!!!
Listen, I live in absolute freeperville USA, there is no diversity here, and i mean none. Not only is it 20 miles away from a city of any size, it is geographically separated by being up on a plateau. I lived in fear of putting my Kerry sticker my car. I just knew if I did, it was going get keyed.

I finally decided that I just cannot be afraid anymore, and put one on about 2 weeks ago. I have gotten a few dirty looks but much more POSITIVE response than negative. I think everyone was waiting for someone else to do it, because since then I have seen more and more, at least one a day, and yesterday I saw an impeach w sign on the back of a car! I honked at him and we gave each other the thumbs up. Showing your colors in a rethug area gets easier with baby steps. Last week i put a sign for a dem candidate in my yard. And if the Kerry campaign ever sends me my signs I ordered, I will put those up too.

Baby steps, thats the ticket. Bumbersticker first, then the yard signs, then go talk to your neighbor about voting for Kerry. We can do it! You have done so much already.

Good Luck!!!!

I didnt want kerry to be the nominee what so ever
but after seeing a couple of bush stickers, a yard sign, and "FREEDOM ISNT FREE" stickers in my area....
i bought 3 kerry yard signs and 10 kerry bumper stickers. one is in my yard the other on my car and the rest are going to family members who feel the way i do.

Id really like someone to make a "Freedom isnt free" sticker that says "And neither is Oil" under it.

21. I'm in Texas
IN A 75-80% Republican area. I've had one on my car for over a month now. For the most part nobody bothers me, or maybe I'm just oblivious. The only incident is that when I went to a local restuarant/bar for the Convention watching party last month, someone peed on my driver door, but really no harm was done.

And the best part is, I've only seen one Bush/Cheney sticker.

Also, I bought some extras and have given away two already to people who asked me where I got one. We have to pay for them here and they are hard to find even at that, so this is just one little way of doing my part.

29. I'm in Georgia
and yes I'm scared to put the sticker on. I did put up my Dean sticker though.

Mostly, though, I worry that I'll be driving like I do sometimes and not paying enough attention, do something dumb, and then someone will go, "That's a liberal for ya" and not vote for Kerry, seriously. Traffic where I am is so crazy it just comes at a person from every direction all at once all the time.

I do have a Cynthia McKinney sign in my front yard!! That's because I'm living in a neighborhood that's become a stronghold of support for her. At first, my neighbors who are Black weren't all that sure about supporting her. She has had some bad press. But now they are coming around.

The irony here is that I am seeing Kerry stickers and anti * stickers but I'm not seeing any * stickers. Maybe they are more afraid than we are (actually come to think of it we know they are a bunch of paranoids).

I hate the idea of being afraid to publicly say who I support, but I also know I won't ever change the people who feel so strongly about shrub too.

I'm simply not willing to rish my car, my home, or my life for a difference of opinion on politics.

I guess the poster who said the founding fathers would be ashamed of me was right too. I'm not sure I would have fought in the civil war like they did either.

I have a Clark bumper sticker ... I really need to add Kerry, and now feel motivated to do so.

'Cause I'm a rebel, a son of the south, and I am NOT backing down. I'm Irish-American ... so rebellion is in my genes. My grandmother's sister marched with Martin. My parents were Kennedy Democrats who strongly supported the civil rights movement. I will not dishonor their memory by hiding my beliefs now.

If someone trashes my car, I will fix it. If someone trashes yours, I will help you fix it. I'm a motorhead. I have a garage jam packed with tools. I can do that.

31. Nope and I live in heavily Repuke East TN!
I have had these three stickers on my car for quite some time:
Kerry/Edwards
"Bush is a Weapon of Mass Deception"
"Send Bush to Iraq, Bring Our Troops Home"

Surprisingly enough I have not had one single bit of hostility because of them. I have gotten nothing but positive feedback. I was in the more affluent and Puke parts of town a couple of weeks a go... had this elderly couple in a brand new caddy pull up beside me going down the road and the lady had her window rolled down and was waving a big thumbs up at me. It was hysterical to see this well to do little old couple so enthused about my stickers. That is just not something you would expect to see here.

I am seeing a definite tide turn here. I have seen very, very few Chimpy stickers here. On the other hand I am seeing more and more Kerry stickers. I'm even seeing the harsh anti-Chimpy ones here as well. I would not have expected that here at all. So, those Zogby numbers that have TN in play are not wrong. I get the feeling that Kerry can win here.

...you cannot let anyone intimidate you into not exercising your right to support the candidate of your choice. When I read posts like yours, it is when I truly fear that freedom of speech and association as we have known it is dying.

If you are afraid to put a simple bumper sticker on your car now, how soon will it be before you're afraid to express your opinion either in public or elsewhere? If that day ever comes, then the other side will truly have won.

The time to stand up to these Brownshirt tactics is now.

eventhough I live in a pretty republican part of Wisconsin. I have my Kerry and "Defend America Defeat Bush" stickers, and have actually had a couple people ask where I got them. My "Not Bush" sticker was cut in half by some jerkoff so that it just said "Bush" so that one got removed.

The other day while driving through town though, my husband and I saw a black Mercedes with "Bush 04" spray painted on the tires in white. We initially thought that was a pretty extreme show of support, until we noticed the "Kerry-Edwards" sticker on the bumper. Pretty sad if you ask me.

I believe if I don't speak up now, I might not have the chance to speak up later. That said, I've got a K/E sticker on my car, as well as an "ABB" and several "message" stickers. On occasion I will also create a political 'mini-poster' on the printer and tape it inside my window.

I live in Nashville, which (with the exception of a few liberal pockets) is very conservative.

Shortly after the war began, I had written "IMPEACH THE SHRUB" in the dirt on the back of my car and got two of my tires slashed.

Now, I honestly believe the tide is turning. It's not as 'verboden' to criticize Bush. But even if it wasn't, I refuse to let thugs take my voice away from me. My freedom to speak my mind is far more valuable to me than whatever damage might result to my car for doing so. Tires can be replaced, vandalism can be repaired. But if I lose my freedom to express myself, that's a loss that nothing can replace.

53. I understand....
I live in a very republican area...both Richmond and a primary home in rural Virginia. Not only is it very right-wing, but also lots of NRA wackos. I too have a very nice car that costs a fortune to repair. I put my sticker on a piece of cardboard and just slide it in the window when I'm driving. I remove it when I park. I've never had any problems while driving, actually lot of "thumbs up". I've forgotten to remove it in places like the redneck Walmart and had no problem. We have a small dem group in my town and they all have more than one stickers on their cars and have had no trouble.

However you decide to do it...it is very important to have the sticker on your car. It is the equivolent of $40,000. worth of advertising. Also...try and wear a button wherever you go. If you live in a highly republican area you would be surprised how many dems are in the closest and very happy to see us out there. I've had many people tell me in hushed tones that they were voting for Kerry.

54. I did and this is what happened...
My significant other and I went to the NASCAR Busch series race in Bristol, TN last week and we had an interesting experience with the parking lot personnel. First, it's the first NASCAR race I've been to in 20 years and we only went because her company sponsors Kyle Petty's car.

That being said, when we were in line to leave the parking lot the attendants saw my Kerry sticker and told me that if I didn't remove the sticker then I would not be allowed to leave until everyone else was gone. I said fine, I'll just sit here AT THE FRONT OF THE LINE AND BLOCK IN THE 5000 CARS BEHIND ME. I sat there for about 3-4 minutes while they had their backs to me and then I said screw it and drove around them.

I'm going to e-mail the management of the lot, Bristol Motor Speedway, and NASCAR and let them know that because I chose to exercise my freedom of speech rights, their little redneck attendants chose to hold up several thousand vehicles that were trying to get home, many of whom I'm sure are Bush supporters.

Oh, and when I got home I put two new stickers on my truck. One says "Stop Mad Cowboy Disease" and the other says "If you're not outraged you aren't paying attention."

I e-mailed Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Earhart Campgrounds (the owner of the lot), the local Bristol newspaper, and, on the suggestion of a DUer, Keith Olbermann. So far I've had three responses but not from the ownership of the parking lot.

Let there be no doubt who I support.

55. Not for an instant. Must say, though, that I'm in L.A. and all over, here,

you see maybe 6 - 8 pro-Kerry/anti-bush stickers for every one bush/cheney or that annoying little "w" sticker. Also saw a little sticker of that same shape that had ABB on it. LOTS of "Defend America, Defeat bush" stickers. Mine are in my back window: a Kerry sticker, "bush Knew," and "War is Not the Answer." I've had to replace my Kerry sticker twice because people have asked me where they could get one and I gave them mine (I had a few extras). I've also given away a couple of the "bush Knew" stickers to people who asked. I've had only positive reactions. And I'm gonna keep 'em there! I might even add a couple more if I can make some room.

56. I have one of the magnetic ones, I'm a little paranoid, though.

So far, one positive comment in a parking lot, 3 bird flips, and one very uptight lady in a big ol' Buick who made a big deal out of writing my license number down at a red light.

57. I have SIX anti-Bush, pro-Kerry stickers on my car, in a conservative
enclave in southwest Florida. Stick them on your back windshield instead of your bumper if you're afraid of the gum sticking after you remove them. Most of mine are on the back window.

59. You know, I was, but then my 13 year old daughter wore her Kerry shirt
to school today. It is very repuke here in SE Pennsylvania. I warned her that she might get grief about it. She was adamant that she did not care. So, today, I will put the Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker on my car. My daughter has inspired me to be brave!

67. I suppose it depends where you live
Here in central NJ (just outside Princeton), I have a "Patriots for Kerry" sticker on the back of my car without the slightest fear or trepidation. If I lived in Texas or Georgia or someplace like that, perhaps I might be a bit more reticent and discreet.

Sad comment on the polarization of our society, though, innit, that you even have to take something like that into consideration.
