IEEE 1583 Voting Standard
I came across an article about this standard in one of my boss' IEEE publications. Thought others might be interested.

http://www.standardsamericas.net/portal/index.jsp?pageID=geoport_standardswire_headline&path=geoport/StandardsWire&file=P1583.xml

<snip>
The first draft of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) P1583™ voting equipment standard is complete and is being balloted within the committee that created it, as well as to members of the IEEE Standards Association and others who signed up to review it.

<snip>
The IEEE P1583 "Voting Equipment Standard" will set specifications for advanced voting equipment so the voting process is more reliable, secure and accessible. It also will help guide states and localities in replacing older voting equipment. The draft standard can be purchased online by visiting the IEEE Online Store at http://shop.ieee.org/store/product.asp?prodno=UE5925.

The standard encompasses the latest engineering, quality, usability, accessibility and information technologies. It stresses security in voting system hardware, software, communications and documentation, and incorporates all equipment specifications in the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

Google IEEE 1583 for more links.

1. This burns me up-It's like we're using BETA SOFTWARE for the Prez elec
and only AFTER November will we get some friggin standards. BETA SOFTWARE should ONLY be for those who wish to test on it PRE-PRODUCTION.

2. Thanks for the link, have to pursue it later
Did it call for voter verified paper ballots?

The IEEE committee has been a battle ground and is likely made up with mostly vendor oriented types.

If they followed HAVA it's probably a sign.
