Years earlier, I'd gotten a press kit of an album which contained a song titled Thousand Yard Stare. The press release explained it was named after the way some Viet Nam vets could look you in the eye and seem to be focused on something a thousand yards behind you. At the time, I didn't get it. But when I saw this pic, I thought, "There it is."

I bet they came from one of those "Dentures in A Day" Drive thru cheap-ass denture places that always holes up in failing strip malls or vacant spots that used to house Popeye's Chicken. My grandma got falsies from a place like that once. I told her that I would be suspect of any place that offered a full set of clackers for $49.00. Oh no, she says. THey're good quality (ha)

Two days later she gets these teeth and I swear to God it was like the store took some of those wind up false teeth that chatter and walk around and took the wind up mechanism off of them, stuck some polygrip on them and shoved them in her mouth. It looked like she had a fucking picket fence in her mouth. And she said they hurt her mouth something terrible. I asked "So, was all of that word $49.99" and she said 'now I know why my normal dentist charges $300"

Reading the stories in 'Mother Jones', I have 2 wonder and shake my head. That first kid says he was real good at blowing things up, they all want 2 go back. I don't get it. I went thru a life altering accident a few years ago that left me w/ 'deal with it disabilities'. I understand the desire 2 heal, 2 set new goals, but I'll B damned if I would go back 2 repeat the experience. It takes so much energy 2 heal, 2 work thru physical & vocational therapy, 2 come 2 grips w/ the fact that the things U loved 2 do R now denied U. I agree with what David Hackworth wrote. What these guys are doing is fratricide. They are attacking one of their own in order to prop up AWOL. But in the process, they are hurting the Navy and all men who have served in combat.

Is that shrapnel wounds on their legs? My dad received 2 of his 3 Purple Hearts from shrapnel and when I think about how he described the pain of it to me, it still gives me chills. :scared:
