Say Something POSITIVE Thread
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 05:04 PM by Jack_Dawson
Sagging poll numbers, a nauseating convention, 9/11 exploitation, biased cable networks. All of it is pretty depressing. That's why I think we need to hear something that will pick us up.

My contribution: The Valerie Plame investigation will wrap up (and make big headlines) before the election.

I also like spotted owl fajitas grilled with red peppers. Mmmmm.

:) Come On, I'm just kidding. Actually I'm practically a vegetarian.

On the bright side, I found that I really like Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve and Michelob Amber Bock.

14. Well
The original proposal was 2 moderated (who knows to what extent) and 1 town hall meeting format. That should be an opportunity for kerry to take him to task on those issues and bush just doesnt have the answers. Still no formal agreement I guess but if bush backs out of any one of the debates, he will look like a coward

adding to several already up and none for Dumbya yet. This has to mean something since in the past 25 years (6 past Pres elections) the only yard signs in my stomping grounds were one Dem and one Repub sign in 2000.

20. Republican sign on the edge of town - stolen--this is Great!
A 2 sided sign on the edge of town (home made and pretty good size) said

Flush out both Johns
Re-elect Bush

Someone apparently stole that sign ...(but the metal bracket was still standing)

Now on the sign in big black letters is:

Thou Shalt Not Steal on one side
and Return sign you Thief... on the other.

of which plastered over the words "return sign you Thief" is

a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker. My husband and I laughed all the way into Liberty, Missouri.

Clay County, Missouri.....Big Bush (religious area I guess) In fact, you can see 5 churches from where this sign is posted.

30. Kerry looks cool windsurfing!!
Loved the photos! Bush comes out well because he is never the source of the attacks, and he is seen as an athletic, likable guy. (I think he's smarmy, but hey.. I'm not easily fooled). Kerry has people to handle the offense and the defense. I love seeing him doing regular stuff.. he looks happy, relaxed, and in control. Image is everything.

My 12 year old stepdaughter saw him at the Tacoma Rally. She was very close to the stage. She said she liked Kerry because he looked happy and smiling, and really healthy. Oh, and that he explained how he was going to do all the things he promised to do.

That's my happy stuff. k?

How about this: George isn't going to see Armageddon, at least not the way he thinks (Jesus coming and all that). He's going to grow old and die like the rest of us, with resources that are polluted by corporate greed, if they exist at all, and he'll only have himself to thank for his hysterical beliefs.

45. There are more liberals out there than it appears
I went below my property today to see who lives on the other side of the jungle that's down there. Well, what a surprise it was when I drove down a tiny dirt road, lined with trees, to see an old white haired man in his garden. He was feeding his two donkeys. We talked for a while, and he invited me for a walk through his beautiful forest. Huge trees and ferns. We talked the whole way. He and his neighbor both faught the logging company, and stopped the logging plan, upstream. After we got the feel for where we stood on politics, he invited me in to meet his wife, where we talked for another hour. These two old folks are absolute liberals. He is very involved in the community. And despite my entire neighborhood being a bunch of flag waving, bush loving assholes, he claims that the larger county is quite democratic. It was cathartic being able to vent about all the things I've learned here. As involved as they are, they had never heard of the PNAC. And he's a phd in biology, so I'd have expect him to have at least read about it. It told me that people are still learning. And that there are more of us out there than the polls have picked up.

And if it's any consolation, he thinks that as people get older, their experiences tend to turn them more toward liberalism than the other way.

So, if that isn't positive, I can't think of much else. Oh wait. Yes. Cats. And blackberry pie. I made my first ever, last night. And bike rides. Damn, I've got to make a fire pit like the poster above me.

To be basically even at this point, as the challenger, is a good position and shows the country is ready to reject the shrub.

It's true that some momentum has been lost to the disgraceful smear. But you have to let it go, it has happened.

Unfortunately it appears that we will also simply have to accept that the majority of broadcast media will shill for shrubco to varying degrees through the election.

If the K/E team has a decent game plan here on out we will win.

61. America has not forgotten
Regardless of the RNC trying to do a showbiz pulling the wool over our eyes, trying to create a 'strong leader' facade, re-promoting a 'compassionate conservative' front...we have not forgotten.

The last four years have been a demonstration of neo-con power and evangelical extremist control of the highest office in our land. Americans are smart. Americans know the man in office has failed in his performance as POTUS.

They lied to us about 9/11. They lied to the people going into the toxic soup of ground zero. They cut benefits. They make policies that reward the loss of jobs. They have begun to limit a woman's right to choose. They have used ideology over science in more ways than we can count. They have put 'dissenters' in Free Speech Zones whenever the president is to appear and arrested patriots for wearing t-shirts not supporting Bush. They have failed to enforce and fund Homeland Security...as promised. They have failed to fund the NCLB bill...as promised. They have outed a CIA agent risking lives and operations designed to provide humint efforts. They have made a choice to support Israel no matter what it does. They have relaxed environmental controls and not enforced existing controls. They have stated in no uncertain terms that gays should not have the same rights as a man/woman. They've thumbed their noses at the UN. They've pissed off the rest of the world making us less safe. They've restricted stem cell research based on religous faith/beliefs. They've re-written labor law to enable taking overtime from the rank and file. and on and on and on

Americans will not forget!

64. I'm Positive That We Will Win.
After watching tonight's deception I am positive that we will win.

And more importantly, WE MUST WIN.

I do not fear you, Republican.
I do not fear your lies. I do not fear your cries.
I do not fear your bile, or your groupthink sieg heil.

I do not fear the Faux Patriotism or the Hannity derision.
Or another December Supreme Court decision.

I do not fear the Diebold, because this fall the truth will be told.

I do not fear the Factor.
I do not fear the Rush.
I do not fear Swift Boatsmen or the lies that they gush.

I do not fear the siege ahead, because this time we're not mislead.

You will fear me, Republican.
And you'll probably hate me, too.
As we head down the trails in the fall.
I will do what I must do.

I will bring the truth to your lies.
And see to it, national ignorance dies.

Your president is a sham, built upon a scam, Roved on a feeling and a backhanded plan.
A force of darkness claiming Christ's light.

False prophets working for profits, money changing at temple gates.
I will clean out you defilers of our United States.

You will fear, hate, blame as I put you to a collective shame.
Its time to shine the light and call evil by name.

Oh Say Can You See the war profits by the dawns fading light.
We walk in greed with green in sight.

Oh what a friend they claim in Jesus, yet none bear his cross.
Onward Christian Soldiers, who never paid their cost.

This little light of mine. I'm gonna let it shine, and help keep the GOP far behind.

Fear me, Republican as my number grow.
I bring all my people in tow.

I bring the black, the white, the yellow, and brown.
I bring all who've been put down.
I bring the working man, the fighting man, the family man, and the woman who keeps the land in hand.

I bring straight and gay, both look in dismay at the American dream slipping away into the nightmare of lassiez-faire and having no care exception for the coddling of the billionaire.

I bring resistance to the Gordon Geeko Insistence that Greed and Might make everything right and reality bites with a grip that rubs Lady Liberty raw and wrong.

I bring the Mainer and the Hawaiian, standing nationally defiant at Patriot Acts that ignore the facts.
I bring them all from the Rio Grande to Saint Paul. Trumpetting America so your walls shall fall into the decay of a past long dead toward a bright future just ahead.

Something's 'round the corner. Future 'round the bend. What I see just up the road is a just and peaceful end for a nation needing to be on the mend.

So, Republican enjoy your soiree, have your day and your say. Be extra bellicose in your scream and zealous in your shouts, because on November Second WE WILL SHUT YOU OUT!

"Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. In that verse Francis Scott Key made the essential link between democracy and courage. We will not perserve our democracy without our courage. Courage America! Freedome America! Be Brave, America!" --Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio)

DU Comrades, They will attack us. They will call us names. They will try to divide America. They will play worker against worker. They will play men against women. They will play black against white. They will play working parents against single mothers. They will play white collar against blue collar. They will play south against north. They will play an electronic shell game with our votes, but if we do our part and fight our heart out what they do will not matter because we will bring so much truth to bear that they will need a billion Diebold machines to try to cheat us.

We are fighting for more than just an election. We are fighting to preseve freedom. Freedom is the ultimate right of all sentient beings. We are fighting for the ideals that have been the bedrock of our country, and that the neoconservatives are willing to sell for bowl of beans sold to them by Halliburton.

I am positive that we are in a fight that we can, will and must win. They are going to belittle us. They are going to send their minions out after us. They are going to question our patriotism. They are going to call us names. They will call us "Anti-American pinkocommunists gay-loving, feminazi, nigra-loving, UN-loving lefty elitists" or words to that effect.

They are going to say we are pagan and godless. They are going to wrap their Soviet Agenda around an American flag and call it good. They are going to wrap violence around a Bible and call it Christian.
They are going to wrap corporate feudalism around Adam Smith and call it free enterprise.

"All that serves labor serves the nation, all that harms is treason. If a man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor,he is a liar. If a man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool. There is no America without labor, and to fleece one is to rob the other." -- Abraham Lincoln

I'm positive that Abraham Lincoln would not be accepted into the "Party of Lincoln" in 2004.

This quote to me is the center of what they want to fear, and what they fear the most. The Hannitys, Limbaugh and Coulter, the Right-Wing Dead-Wrong All-Stars act on fear. They fear if too many people look behind the curtain, they won't have a living or a relevance. Their fear is carried on to the Cheneys and Bushes who have carried out the grandest of deceptions designed to enrich themselves at the expense of our country.

Once upon a time, I fell for their greedy message desguised as common sense until I saw the red ink pile up. They tried to sell us old-time religion of Franklin and Jefferson when we really got slick economic televangelism where the water of our tax dollars got turned to wine of deficits and red ink for us and massive gain for them and their friends.

The net result is they've made us choose. Do we fall meekly into their ranks and rise to defend them against our own interest, or do we become guerillas in the class war they started. I'm positive I've chosen the latter and I am not alone.

Yes, comrades. They will shriek, "YOU ARE CALLING FOR THEM SAME OLD CLASS WARFARE".
You darn right I am! We all know its started. It was started more than thirty years ago. We have finally decided to engage the invader.

I am positive that we are in a fight and the opponent will not play us honest. They will come at us spikes high and they believe that we will not fight back. In the past we haven't fought back. In 2004, we have no choice. WE MUST FIGHT BACK!

I am too weak to stand. STAND ANYWAY!
I'm not a good enough speaker. SPEAK ANYWAY!
I can't convince anyone. CONVINCE ANYWAY!
I'm scared of what they'll call me. RESIST ANYWAY!
The problems of our country are too great. SOLVE THEM ANYWAY!
I can't protest the war, so many people are for it. PROTEST ANYWAY!
My vote won't count. VOTE ANYWAY!
The Republicans have too much money and too many die-hard supporters for us to win. WE WILL AND MUST WIN ANYWAY!
