And While The Republicans Worship Their Fuhrer, FRANCES is Coming
While the Republicans shriek and Ghoul about and get drunk off death exploitation and the delusion of their "But We're REALLY Moderates....HONESTLY!" Platform of Ruin, the real world goes on and a very real problem is developing in the Atlantic.

I've been watching Frances for the past few days and she looks like she will even be MORE powerful than Charley and could rival or surpass Andrew if she continues to strengthen.

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200406.html

She's already a Category 4 with Maximum Winds of 140 MPH and it looks like she is GOING to hit The US Atlantic Coastline.

Frances is a KILLER, and she is going to cause A LOT of destruction.

And NO ONE is talking about her. I know there have been a couple of threads here on DU, but it is looking more and more like this is a much bigger deal than was originally thought.

But then again after what happened in Virginia, why am I not surprised.?

I know we have many DU'ers in Florida and South Carolina. All of you please take care and get out of harms way if it comes your way. I have a really bad feeling about Frances.

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS STORM.

She's already what Charley was and she is going to get worse.

1. I think you are right. Please get to safety all of you in her path.
We have friends in Nassau and they are scared to death. Will hit there by Thursday.

3. I'm paying attention!
I've already made reservations out of state and plan on getting everything tomorrow. Tonight I've just used it for my "crying time" though. I'm in a manufactured home. I know if it comes through here, I lose everything. Tomorrow though I get to work figuring out what little I can pack in my van with my 4 boys and my 4 dogs. It won't be much but at least we will be safe. We are taking one computer with us so I'll be checking in from time to time to make sure everyone is ok. Stay safe everyone! Please don't try to ride this storm out if you have any doubts about your house. Get out while you still can. :grouphug:

4. We're watching too!
Most of S Florida is in the 3 day potential track. Our house is newer and meets most codes but we don't have shutters. Depending on what we see tomorrow morning, we may try to get plywood to board up.

5. I hope everything will be okay for you.
My mom also lives in FL (Orlando) and is just getting over Charley. They were without power for 4 days. She says they are "battening down the hatches again."

Where are you located?

6. Flagler County
Just north of Volusia (Daytona Beach). Earlier it showed the hurricane coming right in on my mom (she is in Volusia). She's in an older mobile home and we are in a 2 year old manufactured home so we are evacuated no matter what. We were evacuated with Charley but decided to stay and were fine (no power for 13 hours) but there is no way I am second guessing this thing. We've been through the evacuations during the fires and with Floyd and this thing scares me like nothing else (except Dumbya). Hope your mom stays safe. She is in my thoughts.

This storm looks like it could be nasty! Who would have thought you could get one again so soon.

My mom's actually in Altamonte Springs.

10. Yep
we are heading north though. I-75 I think? Sorry, if it's not I-95 or I-4 I'm lost but the news channels around here have been encouraging people to stay off of I-95 because of traffic. They are doing tons of constuction on I-95 in the Volusia County area right now and Flagler County I-95 is what I consider the death corrider so I'm quite happy to go elsewhere.
Did your mom get much damage to her property? I hope she is safe this time and keeps her power. I thought I would die without 13 hours of no power. I cannot imagine 4 days.

12. Thanks alg0912
We are going to take one computer so once we get to Macon I will be checking in to make sure everyone else is ok!

I'll tell you one thing, if this thing does hit, there are going to be some realtors getting holy hell after this is done. From what I have been told, they have completely sold my county on being immune to hurricanes. Supposedly we have a "hurricane shield" around this area. :eyes:

11. The storm is on a path
straight to my cousin's house, but you never can tell for sure until a few hours ahead of time. We live in a mobile home and I had thought of going to Atlanta where a relative lives, but that storm looks like it might take a path pretty close to there. We can't afford plane tickets out and we won't leave our dog anywhere. I intend to wait until we are fairly certain where the storm is heading and then just getting into the car and heading in the opposite direction. We'll stay in the car if we have to, I guess, but we'll try to find a room. We have another relative nearby and a friend's home we can go to, but I'm not sure I want to stay in town if we have a strong category 4 or a 5.

Local weather guy just said "there is nowhere to run" - in other words, this is going to affect the whole state. The good news - the whole state won't get hurricane force winds and even strong tropical storm winds we can live with.

14. Can you leave early and go to Atlanta?
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:28 PM by Eloriel
Even if it comes up this far (I live due west of Atlanta quite a ways), it won't be a "hurricane" by the time it gets here. Yes, we can get a lot of rain, high winds and tornadoes (usually in the outlying 'burbs), as well as flooding in a few certain areas. But that's far different than a full-blown hurricane.

Or at last get up into GA past Valdosta a ways and get a room. Edited to add: Try to get at least to Macon, or possibly Columbus (a little further south and a bit west of Macon). Any of these destinations would be FAR better than FL.

19. Valdosta is full as far as I know.
There were some rooms available at the econolodge in Macon (accepts pets) when I made my reservations. The number is (478)746-6221. Get out if you think you are in any danger! With taxes $52.00 +5 per small pet, $10 per small pet.

20. Heck, head to Mississippi or Alabama, don't stay in Florida...
Please don't chance it. If you need help, just give a hollar. We can help you find some place to stay until it has gone, some place for you and your dog.

21. I want her to get farther North
But at this point ANYwhere but FL will be a plus.

--- Altho the Weather channel just now said it IS possible it could take the more easterly current possible track and miss FL all together. Aaaargh -- it must be MADDENING to live in FL at a time like this. I think I'd be tempted to make the reservations and head on out -- and come back from my "vacation" early if there's no problem. But then I'm SUPER cautious about stuff like that.
