Dean to speak at Loyola

Wednesday, September 01, 2004
- by Matt Abbott
CHICAGO -- Tonight, Loyola University Chicago will host former Vermont Gov. and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean. He will speak “on the implications of the 2004 presidential election, an event sponsored by the Student Activities Fund and the College Democrats,” according to the university’s website, www.luc.edu.

SNIP.."The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ recent document titled “Catholics in Political Life” states that “the Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions” (original emphasis).

Here is the website. I gather they are getting a lot of flak for having him speak.

5. Figures. one of the most MORAL and upright politicians to
come around in many years, and he doesn't fit the Catholic bishop's profile because of his support of civil unions and pro-Choice. Hell, it gets worse than that -- he probably also thinks women should be allowed to be ordained priests.

I left the Catholic church in the 7th grade and have NEVER looked back (tho I do confess to listening to Gregorian chant every now and then).

6. My alma mater had Ann Coulter (bleecccch) speak recently
I wrote a letter to the Alumni magazine that I was shocked my alma mater would invite terrorists onto its campus, citing Coulter's quote that "we should send a message to all liberals they can be killed" (the whole quote related to killing John Walker Lindh) and encouraging the assassination of United States presidents ("the only real question with Bill Clinton is impeachment or assassination").

I said that the university should be more careful with ensuring the safety of its student body and not allow such dangerous people to freely roam its campus.
