5. they are switching servers today
to handle higher volume. should be working sometime today. a posting on fark.com resulted in so many hits that it was taken down yesterday, so they are moving to something that can handle the higher volume.

Bev and Andy are well aware of the situation.

6. my letter to them
Have a member of your staff learn about Bev Harris, Jim March, Andy Stephenson, and others involved in their project. They are voting rights activists who say- and have no small amount of proof- that electronic voting machines, referred to by them as "black boxes", are insecure and cannot be trusted to accurately count our votes. They also claim that one of the best methods for preventing ballot tampering using such systems is a voter verified paper ballot.

I have seen with my own eyes, for example, the curious interaction between Microsoft Access and Global Election Systems' 'Global Election Management System', aka GEMS, tabulation and ballot generation software, and using the two together was able to alter an included copy of the actual votes from San Luis Obispo County, CA, within five minutes. I was astonished.

That's only an example of what they and others have discovered.

Bev Harris' book, "Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century" can be obtained free from www.blackboxvoting.org in .pdf form (left side of the page, under "book downloads"). It is also available in print form at http://shop1.got.net/plan9/Search.bok?category=Political+Commentary .

Many of your viewers live in areas affected by these touchscreen voting machines. This issue has received little play in the press, the fact it is one which has the potential to affect us all notwithstanding. That, and the fact that all it now takes to flip an election is a few keystrokes should have us ALL alarmed.

Please try to get in touch with Bev et al and ask them if they would be interested in coming on your show.

14. wrote to her a year about this. . .
then twice again after listening to Bev's appearance on Unfiltered.

Hope this works. Just to be on the safe side I sent two: one to the producers and one to Oprah. Just hedging my bets.

Anyone who has been more overtly and measurably oppressed than the rest of us under * (if that's possible), might want to consider filling out the "my story" option.

I'm thinking of military families, 9/11 families, the unemployed, those who know folks who have become homeless, or those who have become unemployed would create a very compelling picture of why BBVoting, and the further perpetuation of a lack of checks and balances and no accountability whatsoever in our government , will spell the demise of our democracy, especially if * and his nefarious cabal is re-elected through unscrupulous means.

19. Done. I also requested that Oprah NOT have either
one of the candidates on her show this time, as I do believe Bush's disengenuous performance last time made it look like Oprah thought he was ok. She was bipartisan, but when Bush surprised her with that kiss on the cheek, I think she didn't know what to do - Hell, I wouldn't know what to do either. ha

21. Good point, and very important!
This truly isn't a partisan issue - and the fastest way to convince the producers to put the kibosh on the story pitch is for the cards, letters and e-mails sound like they are coming only from one very partisan group.

For example, in my home county, it is a small number of idiot Democrats that refuse to implement more robust auditing to better secure results tabulated on Diebold products and to refuse to ban touchscreens without the security of a paper ballot as a part of the system. Several Republican electeds in the area have actually been more responsive and have read Bev's book with interest.

So, in your e-mails, emphasize that this is not a partisan issue, it is an AMERICAN issue!
