The applicable lottery number should be from the next lottery date following the person's 18th birthday (when Selective Service was required).

Caution: Some math required.

1. questions that have probably already been answered...
1) what is bush*'s birthday
2) on what date did bush* enlist in the TANG?
3) what was his lotto number?
4) was his lotto number called or apt to be called?
5) did he already know his lotto number when he enlisted in TANG?

i really don't know how the system worked then, so forgive any obvious ignorance of the above questions.

3. Questions 1, 3, 4, and 5 are moot ...
Because Bu$h joined the Texas Air Guard in 1968, more than a year before the first lottery drawing was held on December 1, 1969.

9. ok, that answered the intent of my questions...
the intent (obviously) being "did w enlist only after knowing he would be drafted"

thanks.

2. Interesting - I would have never been drafted.
But I enlisted in the Navy in 69 anyway.
Go figure .

4. In 1969, 19 yr.old Karl Rove's number was 084.
It looks like ol' Karl would have been drafted, huh? Guess he had other priorities that year.

5. Ah memories...
I was 191, which was high enough at the time that I breathed a big sigh of relief.

6. Karl Rove - said he was too young
In 1969 he was 19.

His birthdate of Dec 25th would've earned him an 084

*Lottery Numbers, by Birthdate, for Selective Service Lottery Held December 1969

The lottery drawing held December 1, 1969, determined the order in which men, born from 1944 through 1950, were called to report for induction into the military

The highest lottery number called for this group was 195; all men assigned that lottery number or any lower number, and who were classified 1-A or 1-A-O (available for military service), were called to report for possible induction.

10. So what exactly was the reason Rove didnt join up?
Seems he should have been drafted....

Was it other priorities or an ass cyst or what?
