How to b*tchslap a repug on Bush's tax cuts
I had the opportunity to b*tchslap a repuke about W's tax cut. The repuke said the economy was getting better because of the tax cut.

That's when I went off! I wish I had a gameshow buzzer to stop him in mid sentence.

I reminded him that most Americans received a check for $300 or $600 dollars depending on their status. Then, I proceeded to tell him the latest numbers show the Iraq war costs the average American household $3,415 dollars. Soooooo......we didn't really get a tax cut, we're paying more. To put salt in his wounds, I asked him what a $3,000 per household tax cut would do for our economy.

He then looked at me with those "I need to study up on W's policies" eyes!

I think we just added another Dem to the family!

1. You got to see cognitive dissonance in his eyes.
You should have added "or instead of a tax cut, how far would that go for a national health care plan, or for better American schools, or for a cleaner environment,...?" The list could go on forever.

2. It's impossible to engage a Repuke in intellectual discourse....

Because in doing so, they have to violate the first rule of being a Repuke:

Rule #1 "Don't rely on your intellect."

So I tried to make it as simple as possible and talked as slow as I could!

3. Don't forget that those checks were proposed by Democrats...
Once it became obvious that the tax cuts were going to go through, the Dems fought for the checks, which were around five percent of the total tax cut.

Another point to make is that the original sweeping tax cuts were proposed by the Bush campaign in 1999, at the height of the Clinton boom years and the burgeoning surplus. They said that the tax cuts were proposed to give the people back their money, yet still stayed with the exact same plan, even though they claimed we were in a recession at the time. The recession (which turned out to be mild), of course, started in March of 2001, but they say we were in one, so we'll go by their words for this argument. How can the EXACT same tax plan be used to "give back some of the surplus to the people in great times" and "to stimulate the economy in a recession." That's what's known as shaping the facts to try to reach a pre-conceived conclusion (as the ads on Air America say).

Any slight economic growth that we have now is after massive, budget-crippling tax cuts and a whopping 11 separate reductions in the interest rates by the Fed in 2002 alone. And we barely have cut the net job losses in half. That would be like if I gave you a couple hundred thousand dollars to spend, you blew almost all that money, but you bragged that you had more Froot Loops in your kitchen cupboard, so the money was well spent.
