What the DNC should do about the "purple heart" band-aids

Imagine this ad:

Wounded veterans from Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom being shown, one at a time, with their injuries: a missing leg, a missing arm, paralysis (in a wheelchair), etc--ALL WEARING PURPLE HEART BAND-AIDS.

The tag line could read: "They served their country. SO did John Kerry."

I think it would be an effective way to co-opt the bandaid and make it our own.

mocking them. Then ask "who would you vote for?"

4. But show them with the Band-Aids

We have to either co-opt or change the connotation of the visual symbol. ie. the band aid. That is what will stick in people's heads--not the issues.
