Police rescue baby from death's clutches

Austin police received a welfare call Sunday night. A neighbor was worried about 6-month-old Asia McCoy and her father Willard. No one had seen them for days.

"They were getting worried and calling his cell phone, paging him, going over to the door and he would never answer until Saturday and Sunday they noticed a smell and flies," said Willard's neighbor Angela Sales.

The neighbors called police and asked them to check on the McCoys.

Inside, officers found the decomposing body of Willard McCoy. Baby Asia was on the floor covered in her father's remains and body fluids.

"I've been a police officer for nine years. I've seen a lot of death. She definitely appeared dead," Austin Police Department Officer Blain Eiben said.
