"So powerful that they can be nice...weird!"-Arundhati Roy at GOP.

Great commentary by author/activist Arundhati Roy strolling the GOP convention and listening to an interview with a true-believing Fox-only-watching war-supporting perfectly-propagandized person-poduct.

She was amazed to be watching the meeting of the richest and most powereful who plan the next war and seeing people who weren't toting guns to slaughter. Instead they regurgitate justifications for atrocities in their name with a casual amicability:
"SO POWERFUL THAT THEY CAN BE NICE."

That's what a media-controlling hyperpower gets ya.
I think it defines the American Congress/CIA/Corporate
secret government of terror-
FASCISM SO POWERFUL THAT IT CAN BE NICE.

(I'd include if I could find it the cartoon of an interrogation smily mask-wearing goons.)

"Fascism is not defined by the number of its victims, but by the way it kills them." -- Sartre

"They first use flags to shrink-wrap peoples' minds and suffocate real thought, and then as ceremonial shrouds to cloak the mangled corpses of the willing dead."
-Arundhati Roy

"And I've visited our military hospitals.
And I can tell you this: Our young men and women in uniform do not
believe there are two Americas!
They believe we are one America - and they are fighting for
it! We are one America -- and President Bush is defending it
with all his heart and soul!
That's what I admire most about the President. He's a man of
perseverance. He's a man of inner strength. He is a leader
who doesn't flinch, doesn't waiver, does not back down. My
fellow Americans, make no mistake about it -
terrorism is more insidious than communism, because it yearns to destroy not just the individual but the entire international order.

The President didn't go into Iraq because the polls told him
it was popular. As a matter of fact, the polls said just
the opposite. But leadership isn't about polls. It's about
making decisions you think are right and then standing
behind those decisions.
That's why America is safer with George W.
Bush as President.
He knows you don't reason with terrorists. You defeat them.
He knows you can't reason with people blinded by hate.
-Arnold Schwarzenneger at RNC Convention 8/31/04
having his Nuremberg Neo-Con Moment

1. It's like in Schindler's List:
The ultimate power lies in the power to forgive, right? But that "forgiving" shit won't last; they're too greedy and bloodthirsty to act "nice" for long. Pretty soon we're gonna see the corspes stacking up again.

BTW, I love your handle. I've just purchased Jim Marrs's "Inside Job;" have you read it? I've read some of his earlier books and can't tell whether he has any credibility or not. I'm just glad there's ONE book questioning the official version of 9/11, finally. The more I read, the more I realize that O'Neill really was kind of a hero.

6. Roy on Zell's scary speech: "Shows you how THE EXITS ARE BEING SEALED.
ARUNDHATI ROY:
"Well, you know, apart from the sort of the theatrics of betrayal and so on, you know, the cheap drama of that, I wasn't -- I’m not -- I’m not somebody who is astounded by that since politicians do that all the time. I have seen it happen time and again. Everywhere, not just here.

But I think what is important about that speech was that it really shows you how -- how the exits are being sealed in this -- in the rhetoric of democracy today. You know, that it's come -- it's come to a space where it is really interesting that, the democrats are in a space where they have to eventually, whether they lose or win the election, they are going to have to prove that they are more vicious, more war mongering, more hard than the Republicans. They don't even have as much space to maneuver as the Republicans do."
