Turkey considering military action in Iraq!
Turkey Signals Possible Military Action Against Kurds in Iraq
By BURAK EGE BEKDIL, ANKARA

The Turkish government hinted Sept. 1 that it may send troops into Iraq to fight Turkish Kurd rebels there.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul told reporters here that Turkey would do “whatever its security required.”

“The United States is not yet in a position to launch a military operation against the PKK,” Gul said in an apparent sign of growing Turkish impatience with the United States. “We shall not proceed by relying on another country. We know how to deal with our enemy.”

2. This kind of unilateral action, of course, will be roundly criticized
by the un-administration.

3. Uh oh. Not good.
But then, this was yet another area of concern expressed by those in a position to know who had strong reservations beforehand about our proposed little Iraq adventure. Damn. Does Bush have to prove so many people so right?

7. This could be WW3 for real.
If the US goes to war against Turkey--a NATO member--I wonder if the Europeans would support the Turks. The US would lose such a war.

5. Turkey's getting involved in the spirit of self-interest. Its focus is
not on assisting the "Coalition of the Willing" or the new "government"/"democracy" in Iraq.

It's worried about the Kurds. If the Kurds in Iraq get strength and political will in Iraq, they may unite with the Kurds in Turkey and decide to form their own territory from Turkey, and morph into a country. And no country wants to cede land, even with the goal of peace and resolution.

Not to mention the financial rewards awaiting Turkey from the money leftover from Haliburton.
