Finally found a 2000 Gore supporter now supporting Shrub
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 01:16 AM by last_texas_dem
My high school gov't teacher told me after the 2000 election that she was a Gore supporter (she did a good job hiding her bias throughout the election period.) Well, imagine my disappointment when my brother-in-law (who teaches with her now) tells me she's now supporting *. Sad because she is actually the first 2000 Gore supporter who is now backing Bush that I've found. But what's good is I know several 2000 * supporters now backing Kerry, so it balances.

But oh well... for one, I'm in TX so her vote makes little difference anyway. For another, she supported Bush, Sr. in '92, Clinton in '96, and Gore in '00 so only 1/3 of the guys she's supported have actually made it into office after the election... which could be a good sign.

3. I'm not sure
All I can figure is that she's bought into the whole "strong wartime President" myth. My brother-in-law just said she kept defending the RNC's Wednesday "hate night" by saying that the rhetoric at the DNC had been just as bad, which seems like a totally ridiculous claim to me.

No Child Left Behind Act?

Surely she must know of that.

6. If I get the opportunity to talk to her...
...I'd definitely like to get a better idea of why in the world she's supporting Shrub. No Child Left Behind as implemented by Shrub is a disgrace. I come from a family of teachers (and Democrats) and I'm always amazed to hear teachers supporting Republicans... especially "Education President" Shrub.

If he ever did the dogs name had to be old yeller, that's the type of guy Kerry is. A man of substance.

7. i liked the conversation about real questions, he proposed 2nite.
we are going to sit down and figure it out, because that's what Americans are good at. We all know pretty much what kind of country we want to live in. And We all know pretty much how we want the world to view that country.

8. I know one. Basically, 9/11 scared the crap out of him; unlike most of us
he never really got over it. Also, I think he likes the idea of pissing off lots of people too much to pass up the chance of turning Republican. formerly he was a fuck-you-establishment leftie, self-described "lib-rad." now all his (now former) friends are liberal, and he never quite outgrew the need to play rebel, so now he's gone all God 'n' Country.

although thinking about it, actually i think he never really knew who the hell he was; he always had a cynical, nihilistic streak. Maybe this is just one more identity for him to try on. Whatever it is: he's just full of bile, and he seems to be getting worse. Not a happy guy.
