An Appreciation of Amy Goodman
With her intelligence and tireless energy, Amy Goodman is an amazing asset to the Left. This week I was especially grateful to her program Democracy Now. I came to depend on the show to learn what was happening on the streets and in the convention hall itself.

I'm impressed not only with her executive ability in running a complicated operation, but also her ability as a ground-level journalist. She'd interview right wingers and bring out their essential cluelessness.

3. I love the sense of compassion in her shows. And the way..
she gives each subject the right amount of time to answer your most important questions.

She is her 'brother's keeper'. I met her once, and took the opportunity to say that to her; however, her real brother was standing right next to her and they both looked a bit confused by my comment. Or maybe it just seemed weird as a New Testament quote when I think she might be Jewish? I don't know. But what I meant is that she seems to live up to that role by telling stories of injustice and tragedy as if it were her own life that was being affected. It's so obvious that she really cares, yet she keeps her wits about her when she's doing her job.

6. She is the best journalist. around...
She embodies the spirit of journalism and freedom of the press.

Her book "Exception to the Rulers" is a must read. I put it on par with some of Chomsky's and Zinn's works.

7. Was it Amy who got thrown out during Cheney's Speech?
Hey - there was a 1/2 second flash of the lady getting thrown out during Cheney's speech, apparently for yelling "Haliburton is an evil company". It look a bit like Ms. Goodman, as best as I can remember what she looks like. Just curious. I know that she's caused a ruckus at the Shell stockholder meeting years ago, and again at a media awards banquet, so it isn't quite unlike her.

Yeah, whenever I need my blood pressure to go up, I just need to listen to Democracy Now.

Cheers,
MF

9. She's amazing.
I recommend everyone check out www.democracynow.org and listen/read her coverage of the RNC Convention archived there, especially her interview with Ahrundati Roy at Madison Square Garden.

15. I Agree
started watching Democracy Now just a little over a year ago & had so much admiration for Amy Goodman-- just a few months later, she was here in my town for the National Media Reform Conference and I got to hear her speak live there & several months later on her book tour. She's indispensable and a real champion of truth in journalism!
