Dean, Huffington, Sullivan, Buchanan join Bill Maher tonight.
http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/

Bill Maher returns with a new edition Friday at 11 pm. Bill's guests this week include: Actor Jason Alexander and columnists Andrew Sullivan and Arianna Huffington. Plus, Howard Dean and Pat Buchanan join Bill via satellite.

As the Campaign of 2004 heats up, Bill Maher and his guests examine the minds and motives of George Bush and John Kerry.

Wish Dean were on panel, but satellite will do.

2. Is Jason Alexander a Repub?...
I don't dilike him, or anything. I memory serves, he's not a rabid neocon.

Thanx for reminding me to set the VCR.

3. Why give that Nixon wipe Buchanan another forum to
trash Kerry? He should have been in jail with the rest of those criminals.

4. WooHoo -- GREAT line-up
Of course, ANY line-up that includes Howard is a great line-up.

I'm also interested to see what ole Andy Sullivan has to say for himself these days where he's not so sweet on Bush anymore. Should be very interesting.

Thanks, madfloridian. You all hunkered down safely for Frances' onslaught? You're on my mind. Stay safe.

9. HBO has some really good shows
Most notably Real Time with Bill Maher, but Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the funniest shows on TV. And very smart.

13. General theme is Kerry is not campaigning tough enough
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 10:28 PM by plastic_turkeys
Focussing too much on "undecideds" and swing voters and being nice. "Democrats decided to be nice at their convention and the Republicans tore Kerry's face off." Arriana is getting applause from the dems in the audience but Jason Alexander and Maher seem unimpressed by Kerry's tactics.

Maher thinks Dems may have buyer's remorse...Dean seemed a loose cannon but at least he has a cannon.

14. I wish I could talk to that bald headed freeper mouthpiece
He just said Clinton was responsible for changing US policy toward Iraq in 1998. Do Ariana Huffington, Jason Alexander and/or Bill Maher know about the Project for the New American Century? Do they know about PNAC's letter and reports sent to Clinton urging him to pull the inspectors out and start bombing Iraq?

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about PNAC??????

Did I miss a memo?

18. She really did.
He couldn't answer her with any substance. I am glad, though, that he brought up Cheney's daughter and the way she was dissed. It seems as though Sullivan only cares about issues that affect him.

21. Wishful thinking.
Maher's show is much edgier when he can dump on George Bush. I loved the plea for no tears, though. It's a chick thing (paraphrasing). I guess he doesn't like to see the leader of the free world cry crocodile tears. None of us do. I missed the tears thing because I had to watch the Daily Show. Was he crying about the loss of lives in Afghanistan? In Iraq? Did Boosh mention anything about American lives lost in these places?

23. Is there anyway of getting a transcript of tonites show?
What Bill Maher said in the last few minutes of the show, is exactly what Kerry has to do. Kerry has to go after bush on 9/11. Anyone know if transcripts are available for Maher's show? Thanks!

26. The show was great
Arianna needs a translator at times, but always
makes sense...I was pleasantly surprised by Jason
Alexander for his sanity and factual knowledge
(he's also liberal) Andrew wasn't as smart as
I thought he might be and had some of his facts
wrong. You could see the hurt in his heart about
how Republicans are treating gays and lesbians.
Bill's best lines were when he talked
about 9/11 and Bush using it as a media event.

I think Bill's interested in how prayer works...
maybe someone could take him under his or her
wing...

Bill's good but he doesn't command all the facts
or talking points as well as we expect him to.

and I love Howard as usual. Even Pat PukeCannon
made some sense. Maybe Kerry ought to hire him.

He really didn't praise the efforts of
thousands of marchers and protesters.

30. on "undecided voters"
he said something to the effect of who the fuck
could be undecided in this election?

The undecided voters were definitely slapped
by Arianna, Bill and Jason. Andrew said he
was undecided....

24. Dean was super, looked great. Here a few remarks of his.
Nothing really new, but very outspoken.

Bad connection at first, Dean joked that the connection was good until Zell challenged him to a duel. Laughed. He said they may never have to run my speech again, now they have Zell.

Audience laughed and applauded, Dean said he liked the audience, would take them to VT, NH, etc, and got a big cheer on that.

Maher said he may have been a loose cannon, but at least he had a cannon. Said maybe people were having buyers' remorse. Kept talking over Dean at that point. Maher was very critical of Kerry, irritates a little, but it is his show.

Dean said he and Weld knew what a good finisher he was, so he knew he would be ok.

Said the stuff they said in the convention was (and he would say it nicer than Maher) was "not true." Said it will catch up with them soon. Said Bush had 9.0 level of difficulty in the speech with 0.0 credibility.

Said Bush took Kerry's position on the war in Iraq. Said people really do want to like the US, they want to cooperate...they just don't like Bush. He destroyed all the alliances.

He said they were presenting theoretical neoconservative nonsense, and they had turned Iraq into a major danger in the world. Said Kerry would be able to enlist the help of others who knew the danger there.
