It's heeere....Hurricane Frances
I'm in West Palm Beach. I had just finished putting up the last of the plywood, put the tools up and the gusts started. It's 3:30 here and the mandatory curfew will start at 8:00 pm.

Squalls. Thunder.

Pretty spooky.

14. They are smart. Our friends in Jupiter decided to stay
and they live less than a quarter mile from the Atlantic!! I'm in Naples, your brother should be ok. We are forecasted to get tropical storm force winds and rain. The central east coast and central Florida are going to bear the brunt of this.

21. I am so relieved they left
They live on a canal off the inter-coastal. Their house is only 4 feet above sea level at high tide. I hope your friends will be safe. This is nothing to mess with.

20 years ago, my daughter and I rode out hurricane Alicia here in Houston. We were 50 miles inland and it was terrifying. You folks in Florida have my hopes and prayers for a safe ride through the storm.

16. Thanks for you well wishes, prayers and concern.
I have really grown genuine affection for all the folks here at DU. There is more community spirit here than I have seen in the last 20 years, since I left Austin, TX.

I'll try to keep you all posted as long as power holds out.

This is only the beginning, though.

Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 06:04 PM by Pallas180
story at all...the local channels are broadcasting 24/7 -

Already had one squall which knocked over etagere in Florida room which I thought I had secured...thank goodness I moved everything breakable into the house...

shutters up, back, legs, and hands aching.

right now at & PM they're saying it's heading for Palm Beach County.

And it's awful quiet out there right now.
