5. Crispin is on NOW!
Thanks so much for the headsup..... I usually look for the schedule ahead of time, and missed it this time. I'm recording Crispin, as I won't be able to get the book (at least for a while), so this is great.

Hurrah for your team!

8. khephra, I'm going to ask your understanding on one point here.....
This is something that affects me personally, and I guess I've gotten to the point where I can no longer just sit silently through something like this, so I'd appreciate your understanding on this. If gay people were being hit with something like this, they wouldn't stand for it.

Crispin just talked about saying there is little difference between the Dems and the Reps is "self-indulgent". I can agree with that as far as it being directed towards middle-class folks, which is really all that the parties are addressing anymore.

However, for those of us who are on the bottom rung of the ladder, this is an uncaring attack. Please, hear me out, instead of the usual DU knee-jerk attack. I know you are a reasonable person, so that's why I'm directing this to you. Those of us who are seeing our very existence on the line, know the score. The Dems have folded on many issues, and this is a big one. Kerry voted FOR welfare deform, which is responsible not just for the suffering of many, but for DEATHS. I have absolutely NO HOPE that he will hold the line n further cuts, which will be the end for me and thousands like me.

Can you explain why my own concern for my very survival is "SELF INDULGENT"?

It doesn't just make me mad....... it makes me feel very hopeless. When people no longer care about those at the bottom, they will obviously not make it.

Kanary

9. I'm afraid that I can't explain why your feelings would be
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 02:10 PM by khephra
"self indulgent" because I'd have to think that your feelings actually were "self indulgent".

I know where you're coming from and don't disagree with anything you've said in the above post--if I've understood you correctly.

Mind you, I might disagree with something you've said in other posts or will in the future, but there's no way I'd ever think that you were "self indulgent" based upon the above post. I've been at the bottom, and I'm only barely at the bottom of middle class right now because I live at home. We've been on every form of welfare at one time or another, so I share your concerns.

10. Thanks, khephra, I appreciate your reply.
I really am tired of this blanket kind of criticism. It seems to be to be either a blindness towards those who are seen as people who "don't count", or something more sinister. Coming from the "left", it's even more disheartening, to say the least.

If the level of awareness about gay issues was this low, there would be a huge outcry.

What in the world has happened to this party????

Kanary, who obviously doesn't matter.....

11. Kerry/Edwards kids on Sunday too (C-Span 1)
I was just setting my TiVo and saw that, on C-Span 1, tomorrow (Sunday 9/5/04) at 5:00pm (Central time) is

"ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE - The children of Senators John Kerry and John Edwards participate in a town-hall meeting."

It looks like it's repeated at 8:30pm.

At 7:00pm (CST) on Booknotes is Richard Viguerie ("America's Right Turn"). Anyone know about this? Does he think it's a good thing or a bad thing? I want to know if I should set my Tivo for it.

I'm glad I saw this thread. Thanks!
