Yeehah! Just got 21 new inner city voter registrations !!!
My husband, his friend/co-worker, and I just walked the inner city streets of York for three hours and gained twenty-one voter registrations, 19 brand new and 2 change of address forms.

We went down some of the roughest streets in the city.....no one in love with Wubya there, let me tell you!

It was a great deal of fun talking to these people.

4. phone banks are up and running. Gave them our phone number
to call if they need help getting to polls, child care, etc, whatever. I think we should just drive down these streets on November 2nd and offer rides. I took off work so I could help.

13. If you are doing this as an independent effort,
be sure to make copies of the completed registration forms. Then send postcards a week or so b/f the election. Tell them to vote Kerry and dems, include polling place, id requirements, any idiosyncrasies in the PA voting system (in NC, you have to pull the lever a min. of 3 times, once for prez, once if you want the straight ticket and individually for judgeships. Some people vote the straight ticket and don't realize they have not voted for prez.) and a number to call for a ride.

If you are working with an established group, be sure they have a follow up plan in place.

Congrats on a successful day! Isn't registering voters fun? I enjoy it so much, too.

20. I have worked in those areas over my half century there.
I was born in DC, lived in Hyattsville, PG County twenty years (it wasn't rough then like it is now...I walked everywhere (and barefoot, too, ha!) with no problems as a child and teenager). Lived in Howard County 20 years, Carroll County two years, Frederick City/County one year.

I worked in Montgomery County...what a godawful commute from Howard to Montgomery. Tried so many ways. Montgomery County has an unbelievable number of traffic lights! In Howard County, they design and even reroute roads so as to make lights unnecessary...such a blessing!

10. Thanks for the correction.
Even better - good for you and your husband- and I was not knocking what you were doing even if it was in NY. Again, you are both out there doing something.

9. Thank you, DebJ and family.
I live in N Texas and am afraid of doing that here. I can see the angry look in peoples faces when they see my anti-Bush bumper stickers.

I know there's been some groups around the colleges here registering lately. We need more voters and less apathy.
