I'm still baffled: Bush delivered his RNC speech without any huge verbal
screw ups! How long do you think he had to practice that?

3. He was sobered up for a couple of days, I'll bet.
When he stumbles on his tongue and leans on the podium with that goofy monkey look on his face, like he's having a hard time concentrating, I think he is either drunk, medicated or both. Yet, I have on occasion heard almost normal speech when he seems more alert than usual. I think that they sober him up for those occasions.

4. He practiced and practiced and practiced
for more than a week. Note, however, that Senator Kerry spent more than a week WRITING his speech.

The chimp couldn't write himself out of a paper bag.

6. Well, considering that he read it 8 syllables at a time ...
it isn't hard to believe. Honestly, the pace at which he read made it hard for him to screw up, though I do remember a couple of pretty clear stumbles.

8. he is actually good at performing that type of speech
When it counts, he can pull it off. It's when the pressure is off that he gets sloppy, makes spurious comments, demeaning quips, etc.

9. He always speaks fine when he's scripted
He can read, he just can't speak on his feet without rote lines.
