Laura Flanders (AAR) tonight --- HOWARD ZINN
Saturdays 7pm-10pm
Sundays 7pm-10pm
Saturday, September 4, 2004

The Republicans gave it their best shot. So whatchathink? The Bush crew are still fighting the culture wars – complete with machismo galore -- but is Gropenator Arnold any match for an army of “girlie men” and those who love the 21st Century? You tell us. Among our guests to discuss the goings-on in New York this past week, historian HOWARD ZINN, cultural commentator RICHARD GOLDSTEIN, and Queens Congressman GREGORY MEEKS (http://www.house.gov/meeks/). Also Slate Associate Editor, BRYAN CURTIS, will tell us about getting netted by the NYPD (‘Hey Ho, Let me go!’ (http://www.slate.com/id/2105974/)

What Happens Next? In hour two, we’ll talk with DAN RADFORD, executive secretary of the Cincinnati AFL CIO Labor council who’s heading into a massive Labor Day voting drive, SARAH HOWARD, Missouri spokesperson for ACT (America Coming Together) (actforvictory.org), and JOHN NICHOLS, Nation Magazine columnist as well as Vickey Beasley - Deputy National Field Director for People for the American Way Foundation who’s mobilizing volunteers to monitor voting machines. (http://www.pfaw.org/pfaw/general/)

Finally, playwright, activist, performer Eve Ensler will join us in studio. It's no longer about a Monologue – Vagina Warriors are organizing “V is for Vote” – With Rock the Vote, they’ve got their 3rd Women and Power Conference coming up and a celebrity studded event taking place on September 13th at the Apollo Theater. Check it out: www.vday.org

:-( I have to listen to the archive every week .

It might have to do with the real player because I
used to be able to listen live

9. I have trouble listening live too
but every so often it goes through. Today I was lucky and it went through. I couldn't listen to the whole thing because of the CSPAN "Books on Bush" program, but I'll go back and listen to the rest later on.

2. johnfunk's Book Club: Okay, DUers, heads up!
I know you're all champing at the bit to buy the latest Bush-debunking tome next time you hit Borders or Barnes&Noble.

My advice: bring an extra twenty bucks (give or take) and pick up the paperback edition of Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States : 1492-Present."

You have the johnfunk personal guarantee that this book will provide more factual raw-meat ammunition to support your progressive worldview than any book you've read in the last ten years. You'l be demanding that Zinn's tour de force reframing of American history from the point of view of Joe Average replace whatever corporate-FReeper-leaning textbook your local high school is forcing down the throat of its American History victims.

Zinn is nothing short of the best historian we've got -- he does for history what Chomsky does for poli-sci and communications.

8. Great analogy he just made
What would you think ? if a crime was committed
and the police knew what neighborhood the criminals
lived in but not exactly which house . So they decide
to bomb the neighborhood to get the criminals destroying
property and killing innocents and Do not get the
criminals . This is what bush has done .
