War on Offense
I was recently looking through the bush* re-election site and found a reference to the "War on Offense" (click here and scroll down to "Chapter 4").

:wtf:

Could someone clarify this for me? I haven't been reading chimpy's speeches, so I must be out of the loop on this one. Is this an attempt to rename the War on Terra?

2. Funny, but it's definitely a reference to terrorism.
Here's the quote:

"Fight the War On Offense: President Bush will continue to lead a worldwide coalition to fight terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them here at home."

Any insight, anyone?

4. Likely...
... the person writing the page has caught Bush's tendency to malapropism. Best as I can figure, this is an attempt to say that Bush intends to take the war on terror on the offensive--it's probably code for more pre-emptive attacks.

3. Pre-emptive strikes: Bush name for Iraq war.
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 07:35 PM by dmordue
Bush says attacking Iraq demonstrates his intention to attack terrorists overseas in other nations instead of letting them attack us here. He wants our soldiers fighting terrorists overseas and recruiting terrorists to those sites instead of waiting for them to come to the continental US.

He compares this to a statement he claims Kerry made in his convention speech that he would retailiate against any terrorism attack. Bush claims Kerry will let terrorists strike first before he takes action while Bush plans to attack them abroad and not wait for any future attacks. The rally cry is that America has already been attacked.

5. Thank you, but the whole thing is self-contradictory, right?
The sheer act of "attacking first" is offense. How does one declare war on widgets and fight it with widgets?

The whole concept of the War on Terror has bothered me from the beginning. It is predicated on the assumption that the 9/11 attacks were an act of war, which is fine, but this implies that the War on Terror is a War on War. How then can a country eradicate war as we have known it for the last hundred years, by dropping bombs on sovereign countries?
