Mayor seeks city council pay raises (60% increase)
The mayor's proposal calls for their salaries to climb from $34,500 to about $55,000 annually. They have not had an increase since 1998. The mayor's salary would jump to about $60,000, an increase similar to the one proposed for council members. Cashell says the increase is justified because of the time involved in serving on the council.

Because council members' salaries are tied to the pay Washoe County commissioners get, anyone elected this year would earn $45,000 annually even if the council did not act on Cashell's proposal. The council will consider the pay raises at a meeting Wednesday.
