Weight limit sparks fracas

Local pilot Jon Hannan could be facing federal charges for reporting the letter of the law at Douglas County's Minden-Tahoe Airport.
He radioed pilot Tom Adame recently to let him know the plane Adame was about to land was not within the airport's weight restrictions. The move angered one airport businessman and led Airport Manager Jim Braswell to report the incident to the Federal Aviation Agency and Federal Communications Commission, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office report.

"Hutt told him it's OK to land here, but it's not," Hannan said. "That's the crux of the problem. Douglas County has an ordinance they don't enforce."
Hannan said Tuesday he has heard no official word concerning any charges.

Larry Mansberger, owner of aviation repair business Mansberger Aircraft, underscored that sentiment. He is closing his business here and moving to Texas because he can't afford to expand his business at Minden-Tahoe.
"There is no property for lease here with power and water on it, where I can afford to put my own building," he said. "The county has leased all the good property to private developers and speculators and they're not doing anything with it."
