1993 Assasination attempt on George I.

Listening to Air America last week, I heard someone, I cannot recall who now, talking about the assasination attempt on Bush I in Kuwait. They basically said it was a bunch of lies. Does anyone know what went down? I have Googled this but haven't been able to find out much.

You'll get an article from mid-late 1993 that is the most detailed I've found about the attempt. The upshot of it is that if it took place, it's doubtful the order originated with Hussein, and that the operation was the Iraqi version of Keystone Kops.

Read the article in the new Harper's about how the rebuilding of Iraq was all planned in advance, the carpetbagging of the entire nation, the creation of a "free market utopia" was planned out QUITE well, but the trouble is they forgot there might be a whole TON of unhappy Iraqis that would ruin their little game.

Oh, and also Sadr called them on their bullshit and that's why they shut his paper down, which resulted in the major insurrection which is still going on.

i actually heard a supporter of the invasion on tv saying that iraqis could now go to the internet cafe in baghdad. imagine bush in front of congress - the iraqi people need the internet cafe. even the gop would have laughed at him.
