2. No way someone with Bush's family connections
would have their records "accidently" lost

3. Marginalizing at best
This article tries to neutralize any debate. It smells funny to me.

5. yes, very much a bush apologia
noting that the files might have been accidentally lost, poorly kept, or never kept in the first place.

where is the thought that maybe, just maybe, some pressure might have been brought to destroy the records? or perhaps pressure was brought to ensure the records were never created in the first place?

remember, bush had already been granted several favors regarding the national guard and poppy had quite some clout at the time.

10. stepnwlf, I think we reached a peak of some sort - we are so used to
reading propaganda, that we expect twists and spins and the need to proceed with caution. I think what has just happened is that we've read a good old=fashioned journalist's report. Facts, several statements and counter-statments, context - I didn't study journalism, but I think it meets the minimum and more. The writer didn't smear either person.

On another angle - I was amazed to read the list of actual documents that would normally be in the file of someone who evaporated.

11. I think you're right higher class
I thought it was a suprisingly good presentation of investigation, expert analysis and (gasp) facts.

On still another angle, I was amazed to see how many news outlets have already picked up this article. I expected the Guardian to have it (they do) but so does ABC News as well as TV stations and newspapers all around the country including Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, Washington State, New Jersey, Louisiana, Michigan, Florida, California and New York.

Google News Link - this story is spreading: http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d&q=MATT+KELLEY+bush+records&btnG=Search+News

12. I Think You Are Right
I am just very skeptical these days. Clouds seem to follow me, or is it the other way around? Anyway. I hear YA.

8. I found this part pretty damning....
<The AP talked to experts unaffiliated with either campaign who have reviewed Bush's files for missing documents. They said it was not unusual for guard commanders to ignore deficiencies by junior officers such as Bush. But they said missing a physical exam, which caused him to be grounded, was not common.>

Why did you miss your exam aWol*?!? Which leads to the fact that that was the year they started drug testing! Hmmmm...

9. Very simple,
using their tactics simply say chicken-hawk-in-chief
failed the "pee in the bottle" test and was removed
from flying status. Let them prove otherwise, no
documents, accusation now a fact. Isn't that the
way it's done? Hell they continue to repeat false
charges even when the documents prove otherwise.

13. oh, the records were poorly kept in the first place! Wadda CROK!
"One of the downfalls back then in the National Guard was that not everyone wanted to be chief of staff of the Air Force. They just wanted to fly or maintain airplanes. So the record keeping could have been better," said retired Maj. Gen. Paul A. Weaver Jr., a former head of the Air National Guard. He said the documents may not have been kept in the first place.

Challenging the government's declaration that no more documents exist, the AP identified five categories of records that should have been generated after Bush skipped his pilot's physical and missed five months of training.

"Each of these actions by any member of the National Guard should have generated the creation of many documents that have yet to be produced," AP lawyer David Schulz wrote the Justice Department"

Thank you AP!!!!
