Memo to any Kerry Campaign Strategists, re: Iraq (It's 'trust')
Try this:

"I voted to support force against Iraq. Why? Because like the rest of America after 9/11, in the face of repeated warnings from this administration about the threat Saddam posed to usI needed to trust in your leadership.

But, you violated that trust when you failed to get the second UN resolution you promised you would get.

You violated that trust when you hired criminals and liars like Ahmed Chalabi to describe the 'threat' that Saddam posed.

You violated that trust when you squandered international goodwill for us after 9/11, bullying and insulting longtime allies in OUR name.

You violated that trust by setting up intelligence laundry services, that distorted and fabricated justification for this war, in the face of profound uncertainties by many in our intelligence community, which was intentionally buried from sight.

You violated that trust by exacting political retribution against anyone who came forward to expose the chaos and ideological blindness that drove the war against Iraq.

You violated that trust when you sent your Sec'y Of State up before the world to tell stories based on fantasies concocted by defectors and skewed readings of 12 year old documents, virtually NONE of which proved to be accurate.

You violated that trust by sending in our troops before you figured out how you could bring them back.

You violated that trust by rushing to flight deck photo ops and taunting militarized Iraqis to "bring it on", as if occupation of another country was a playground game.

You violated that trust by continuing to link YOUR elective war in Iraq with the struggle against Al Qaeda, when NO such link existed.

You violated that trust by diverting resources away from the fight against AL Qaeda and toward the fight against Saddam.

You violated that trust by doling out billions of dollars in no-bid contracts to your Vice President's old company, some of which cannot now be accounted for, and then NOT insisting that he forego the deferred compensation that he continues to draw from them.

You violated my trust. You violated Congress' trust. You violated the trust of a world that used to regard us as the pillar of honesty, decency and transprency. You violated the trust of everyone in America.

Tell the people in Bali, or Madrid, or Russia...IN PERSON...that your war in Iraq has made the world safer. You told America that during your RNC speech.

You don't deserve another chance to break our trust."

2. Good angle - may I suggest another cut ?
It's also about patterns. A pattern of deception. The pattern of secrecy and corporate handouts behind closed doors... the Bush administration has a pattern of deception and therefore have lost the trust of American and their allies... they've engaged in a pattern of reneging on international treaties and withholding funds to manipulate and coerce, hence losing the trust of the people.

The pattern of no-bid contracting and war profiteering.... the pattern of saying one thing and doing another... how could anyone trust these people?... etc.

Pointing to one thing that they do/did isn't enough. It's the pattern of several of these incidents that shows where they're really screwing up and screwing us.

3. Sorry. Too many words.
You witnessed the Republican convention.

REALITY: If it won't fit on a bumper sticker, it won't get Kerry elected.

Don't continue to overestimate the intelligence of the majority of American voters.

Effective response to why he voted for the IRW:
"because bush* LIED to me!"

Any explanation beyond that will be only confuse most Americans, and will cost the Democrats the election.

It is time to get real SIMPLE, and real MEAN!
