OK, I live in L.A., but still
I had to drive across town today (100+-degree heat but clear air and beautiful) so I did a bumper-sticker count to pass the time.

Pro-Kerry/anti-Bush bumper stickers: 5
Pro-Bush/anti-Kerry bumper stickers: 1

Even for the L.A. area this seemed a bit out of whack. But it did make me feel good. My favorite bumper sticker:

(Next to crossed-out W: "Let's not elect him again in 2004.")

1. Was doing the same
I drove from the valley to the beach and back again. I saw mostly Kerry stickers except for maybe one Bush sticker. We were going kinda fast and I couldn't really see. I have a question for other LA DU'ers, however. Okay, everytime I'm driving on the 210 around Sunland, Tujunga, Lakeview Terrace on the way to Glendale from Northridge, I always see a Bush/Cheney sticker or something equally as idiotic. Like one time, I saw a sticker that said "Jane Fonda is an American traitor bitch". Why is this? Has anyone had similar experiences on this stretch of road or am I just more sensitive to this kinda crap?

2. Kerry supporters are fired up, bush supporters are embarrassed!
It's pretty hilarious. In Portland, I've seen ONE bush/cheney sticker in the last 6 months, and it was in a suburb. I know the support is in there somewhere, but it's not PROUD support.

5. Really?
I've seen quite a few W stickers in the SW Portland/Beaverton/Tigard area, but they are outnumbered about 15-to-1 by Kerry-Edwards stickers. :)

7. Yer makin' my point!
SW Portland 'burbs are at least 50% pro-republican. And even in Beaverton they're outnumbered, Big Time, by the visible in-your-face Kerry support. On the eastside, well, you'll have to go out to Clackamas to find the bush signs.

Word: the republicans are ASHAMED of their candidate. Spread it!

3. I recently saw a small W04 (almost unnoticable) sticker
parked between two large and noticable Bush/Kerry stickers. I wished I'd had a camera with me because it seemed prophetic.

4. Here in Palm Springs area
I notice the same thing; about a 3 to one ratio of Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers to Bush/Cheney.
Encouraging; as the area has many wealthy residents.

6. I've seen exactly 2 bumper stickers in my town.
both of them Bush/Cheney '04.

Not a surprise; the life blood of this community is the defense industry, and it is pretty hardcore republican. More and more dems have moved in, but they are a quiet lot; the local powers that be can be pretty damned intimidating.

Most of the people I've spoken to, on the other hand, can't wait to get rid of *. It might be that I'm picky about who I spend time with, and it might be that teachers, for the most part, are smart enough to know the source of the current public ed disaster.

8. I'm right next door
in O.C. and I have already seen more Kerry stickers this year than Gore2000.
It is slow, but it sure is changing here...finally
