my repug neighbor shocked me!
we were having a neighborhood cookout yesterday, and my neighbor, who is a registered republican(but not the annoying kind) was asked by one of the kids who he was voting for and he said "i'm voting for kerry, these gas prices suck and thats why i'm not voting for bush! i have never known him to vote democratic before! thats why i say KERRY HAS TO SLAM BUSH ON THESE OIL PRICES! soon some of will have to start buying heating oil for the winter. it will be at a record high. this is a serious chunk of money.KERRY SHOULD MENTION HIGH OIL PICES AT EVERY STOP!

2. here's somebody else who's turned
http://kopparnickel.blogspot.com/2004/09/duped.html

He says: "Why don't people know all this? Or if they do, why won't they believe it? I know it sucks to face the fact that your own government would trick you so unscrupulously, so callously and devilishly, but look, it's a situation easily remedied - vote Kerry in November."

3. The trouble with this is that they are going to run the price down
before election day. Temporarily, of course.

4. I don't think so
I think they will get more miliage out of trying to pretend that Kerry wants high gas prices (playing of the whole Gas Tax deception). Plus if they had the power to do this, they would do it now. A momentary tick right before election day isn't going to change the perception that the economy sucks.

5. They'll spin it out of control
with Kerry's past "considering a gas tax" and Prince Bandar will flood the market. Also the oil companies have colluded to artificially inflate the gas prices and blame terrorism and war. If you think this is illegal, then you are right. And if you think they will get away with it you are also right.

Gas will be cheaper this fall. And the corporate media will thank Bush for it. They'll say it was because of Iraq or some shit like that.

7. Ummm...I think $100 a barrel oil
is too cheap. Lets make the cost of oil realistic...2-3 maybe $400 a barrell. Then we might get serious about conservation and alternative fuel sources.

13. I think there are a lot more people
out there who are very angry about the pocketbook issues than the polls are showing. This is how *1 went down to defeat.

14. This is an issue where Bush is vunerable
In addition to the way it hurts everyone's pocketbook, there is the big connection between Bush and everyone in his administration with Big Oil and also with the Saudis. One of the most damaging aspects of the movie F911 was the Bush family's connection with the house of Saud.

15. Economic issues in general are key
I was watching the news last night and some local Repug candidate for dogcatcher or something was saying that his focus is on national security because "that's what people are most concerned about".

I don't think so. Frankly, I'm not nearly as worried about my security as I am about my job! And most of the people I know are the same. Gas prices are part of it but it doesn't pay to focus on one specific when there's the (good) possibility that they will go down before the election.
