Drove 400+ Miles This Weekend - A Labor Day BUMPER STICKER Report
hi all. just got back from Maine.

Mrs Matcom and I thought since we were driving more than 400 miles this weekend (MA to ME) that instead of her reading and me just driving, we would get a notepad and record the results of the political bumper stickers we saw.

We started out in middle Massachusetts, drove through a bit of New Hampshire, and up the Maine coast for almost 2 hours. Mrs Matcom recorded the bumperstickers we saw and the results were pretty interesting.

First, there were a TON of cars with yellow ribbon magnets on the back. Not surprising since NH (especially) has been hard hit with reservists on extended duty. Of course, TONS of flag decals, which are everywhere. Now the interesting stuff:

Keep in mind that I usually travel in the left hand lane, going "with the faster flow" (75mphish) so we pass a lot of traffic

Kerry For President Stickers: 48
Kerry/Edwards 2004: 33
ABB in '04: 4
Pro-Choice: 7
Regime Change Begins At Home: 2
Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home: 3
Re-Defeat Bush: 4
Bush Lied: 2 (1 was written in the dirt on the back of an 18-wheeler)
Bush/Cheney: 6
Bush/Cheney 2000: 1/2 - ripped, old sticker
It's Time To Cut The Bush's: 1
Visualize Whirrled Peas: 1 (we laughed for 20 minutes)

Next time we travel, we are going to do the same. Its really fun and interesting and makes the time fly by.

:hi: all!

3. Damned northeastern liberal elitists!
Meh...although Austin has a lot more Democrats than other places in the state, there are still WAY too many * stickers around here. :-(

4. Can't believe you didn't see a lot of Bush/Cheney '04 stickers.
If you drove through Texas you would. Were there any that you didn't get a make on? There is one that I saw and I only caught half of it which started like this..."You can't be Pro-Choice if__________". Do you or anyone else know what the rest says?

Btw, did you have your Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker on your car or your DU sticker?

8. A lot of Kerry supporters I know here in Az
aren't putting bumper stickers on their cars. Probably don't want them vandalized.

10. My own survey....
drove from Eastern MA through NY state- Ithaca, through the NY farmland up to Buffalo, through Toronto, Watertown (FORT DRUM) back to MA

saw no lawn signs, three Kerry bumper stickers, one Bush '04 in MA
In ithaca, home of cornell, there were literaly hundreds of anti-bush or pro-kerry lawnsigns... yeah, yeah, i know, the sample is skewed.

but here was where it got interesting. Around the finger lakes through the farmlands up to Buffalo, which is very conservative country, (they think Giuliani is a flamin' NY liberal) there was one bush lawn sign, threee Kerry signs, and no bush bumper stickers to three for Kerry.

it was early (we traveled during the dem con), still i thought it very significant that there was little overt support for the rep team.

in Buffalo, one bush, dozens of Kerrys.

not scientific, but very visceral

16. I have seen a large number of Kerry/Edwards sticker in Texas
There are a large number of cars in Texas and in Harris county in particular with Kerry Edwards stickers. I always smile when I see one of these stickers.
