"Large, unmarked plane" flying low, fighter jets tailing near downtown SF.

Newest reports say what was initially reported as a "commercial plane" is "unmarked." So it's probably just an escorted military transport vehicle.

Sorry about the initial post.

15. People from my office building called me with the news.

It took awhile to contact someone who wasn't completely freaked so I could get a completely accurate description.

16. So is it just a routine escort?
Probably a cargo plane coming back from Iraq huh?

19. We don't
"routinely" escort cargo planes over CONUS.

We had a similar event here in DC a few months back. It was the DC ANG doing a recruitment photo shoot...

22. Yes. I just got a call from a former fighter pilot.

Just an escorted transport. It's not common to see over downtown San Francisco, but that's all it is.

21. It was probably just a couple of spooked office workers.
They were warning me not come downtown.

They were frantic.

But after getting a calmer person to describe the scene, I realized it was probably just a transport plane. The large plane was military gray and the fighters were simply acting as its escort.

Sorry.

18. Yep. I was just reacting to TWO separate frantic calls.
I didn't make the atmosphere of fear.

23. You need to sit down with those folks and have a discussion about fear.
Talk to them about the mood Bush has created in America and talk to them about whether it makes America stronger when everyone is constantly freaked out.

Even if you were in the actual armed services, getting freaked out and afraid like that would incredibly counterproductive. As mere citizens, people have got to keep their shit together and stop being completely fucked in their heads by fear.

24. I totally agree, however...
If I was sitting in an office building in downtown San Fran and looked out the window and saw a huge aircraft flying really low and fighter jets on it's tail...well, I know I would freak out! This doesn't sound routine.

25. Would you have before 9/11? And dont' you think that after 9/11
even though Bush clearly doesn't have his shit together, there are at least a few patriotic Americans on the ground in law enforcement positions who have their shit together and that you've got less of a reason to freak?

26. Actually no, but I grew up close to WPAFB and had B-52's
come over our house all the time. You get used to it if you live near a base. But of course the images of 9/11 are seared into people's subconscious and it isn't just a matter of fear-mongering by the Bushies. It's an emotion we can't stifle. Now if people ran shrieking into the streets I would think they were lunatics, but I don't think that happened.

I don't think freaking is good. Some people are definitely freaked all of the time. I rmember reading a story about a California woman who was so afraid since 9/11 that she homeschooled her children (for fear they would be attacked). That is unhealthy.

I think we're bound to get hit again, and I doubt it will be another plane attack. But I don't live in fear.

27. I think if Bush hadn't been president on 9/11, Americans wouldn't be so
freaked out.

Remember FDR? We have nothing to fear but fear itself? How did that make Americans feel and think?

Compare that to Bush: it's a fucking scarry world out there and that's why you have to accept less opportunity and keep voting for Republicans (and please don't look behind the curtain where you'd see the very rich getting much wealthier). Oh, and by the way, ORANGE ALERT! ORANGE ALERT! ORGANGE ALERT! (But not in the DoD, where there are spies everyhwere.)

By the way, so what if we're going to get hit again. That's not an excuse for being freaked out. Being freaked out is not going to make us stronger. In fact, it's going to make us weaker. It's going to mean that we're not working to our fullest potential, we're not making the most money possible for America to build up it's infrastructure and resources., and it's going to mean that we're more likely to vote for Republicans who live off of fear and then use it to shift even more power away from the middle class which makes us an even weaker country.
