That mistake aside, the comparison is quite sound. That is indeed apples & oranges.
On the side, the Chechen Resistance was more or less neutral on Iraq (not so now in the period of occupation). ChRI President and ChRI Armed Forces Commander Aslan Maskhadov is somewhat pro-US in general, more from a tactical standpoint, though Commander Basayev is not. Both hated Saddam Hussein because he took the Russian side and because he was seen as a tyrannical apostate in most proper Muslim circles.
I wouldn't catagorize Russia's stance on Iraq as "fighting" the invasion & occupation. Thousands of Russians volunteered to resist the invasion, but I don't recall any of them being given an official escort. In fact, since the so-called opposition that made the sadistic butcher Putin the hero of "anti-war" liberals, there has been nothing but coddling and low-key diplomatic support for the criminal occupation and the quisling puppet regime set up by the invaders. I guess it all hit a bit close to home and a deal was hammered out (maybe they're choking down the dignity and are just setting the idiot up for a big fall sometime later, but I can only speak on what I see in the present). Much the same goes for the French & Germans.
