CIA FUNDS LIBERAL EFFORTS
The CIA's Counterterrorist Center has spent more than $15 million in the past three years funding studies, reports and conferences produced by former Democratic administration officials and other critics of the Bush administration.

The latest effort was a $300,000 grant by the CIA to the Atlantic Council for a study co-authored by Richard A. Clarke, the former counterterrorism official who wrote a best seller accusing the Bush administration of failing in the war on terrorism by invading Iraq.

"The products of the center have a consistent theme: They criticize the Bush administration and provide ammunition for the Kerry campaign," said one U.S. official who has read the resulting reports and studies.

This official said the academic outreach is the Counterterrorist Center's way of "buying off" criticism of the CIA and the intelligence community by providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts and conferences.
Disclosures of the funding come after a highly critical report of the September 11 commission that faulted the CIA for its counterterrorism efforts after the attacks.

2. Thanks
But that seems to be a re-write of the moonie article. I don't find any other sources with original info. They must think it reflects poorly on the CIA, but I was overjoyed to find this piece.

4. I don't see how it reflects poorly on the CIA
It only makes sense to fund people like Clarke, who has years of experience in anti-terrorism despite their political leanings.

It's not like there's anyone in Bush's administration with an anti-terrorist background.

5. Not to mention, Bush has smeared the CIA non-stop for 3 years.
Every Bush admin failure (or outright lie) they have tried to foist off on a CIA that has by and large done its job well.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more than a few in the CIA who would like to see this crew GONE.

7. Oh no! I wasn't clear...

I'm thrilled to know that there are some in the CIA actively seeking policy that deviates from the Bushies. We believed it was so- that some of the pros were disgusted with the admin- and this just supports those hopes.

I say "they must think it reflects poorly..." mostly because of the spin used in the times- The very use of the word "liberal" is supposed to be a slam, I assume.

3. Indian Express is also biased
The Express is very pro-Bush because of Bush's outsourcing policies.

On a trip to India, Powell said Bush would not support any attempts by Congress to stop the outsourcing of jobs to India. When Powell met with the Indian government, the editors of the Express were in attendance, if my memory serves me correctly.

8. Moon and his Fascist friends scared?
Some members of the CIA are giving the Bush regime hell, just as some other WH and government insiders are doing, such as, by leaking information.

If our allied helpers are getting some financial help from the CIA as part of this fight against fascism, there's no doubt that Rev. Moon and the other fascists are worried. But then again, we're all inaccurately depicted as unpatriotic, pinko-commies and Rev. Moon's newspaper capitalizes on that. So a Moonie report about the CIA funding "liberal" research is probably a perceived way of providing more argument as to why the CIA and other intelligence agencies must fall under one department and one head and undergo all the wrong ways of restructuring.

And I seriously doubt if that restructuring will stop some CIA insiders from the ongoing Drug Incorporated way of building more money to pile on top of what's made by our taxes and profits from covert front operations. I say this, because the drug-dealing CIA club is tied to Rev. Moon and a number of others. I'm working on a post at my blog where I'm connecting some of those dots.

Some CIA insiders and veterans aren't as bad as the kind I love to see exposed for dirty deeds. Problem is, we don't know which ones are friend and which ones are foe. Not only that, but signs of connections between the CIA and other departments and research groups, including those at universities and with scholars can raise suspicion. A case in point is the type of funding that Noam Chomsky received. Now that it's out in the open, some people are suspicious of him. But Chomsky was also "watched" by some of those contributors interested in what he was researching, why and what kind of conclusions he'd draw.

Also, funding research projects, especially at a time like this, is probably a cheaper way and with less restrictions of having civilian and domestic researchers and analysts that don't need to play by the same rules as CIA and other insiders. In other words, the researchers they help (if that WT allegation is true) are doing "their" work for them.

So if anyone here happens to receive any funding or other help from them, be careful and don't return any favors in ways that ruin your credibility and plays on your conscience.

I hope, that funding is helping to fight the fascists. I really do. What's happening is worse than a lot of people I encounter realize.
