Govt bans Trudeau infomercials- can Faux News survive new standard?

WASHINGTON -- Kevin Trudeau -- star and producer of infomercials for such products as the Coral Calcium Supreme dietary supplement and the Biotape painkilling adhesive strip -- was banned by the FTC Tuesday from advertising any such products.

As part of a settlement, Trudeau was also fined $2 million for making false health claims for products.

"This ban is meant to shut down an infomercial empire that has misled American consumers for years," said Lydia Parnes, acting director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. "Other habitual false advertisers should take a lesson: Mend your ways or face serious consequences."

News is a commodity, misleading the consumer isn't protected here as speech, so what's protecting Fox? They have even won a court case for firing someone who wouldn't lie on air.

over deceptive advertising by the Move On folks.

It'll take forever for this one to grind its way through the courts, but expect Pox to drop "fair and balanced" at some point.

We can only hope they're also forced to stop calling themselves "news."
