Are Dems going to become endangered due to the media and Amercan apathy?
Sorry for being so negative but after seeing what has happened in the last few elections - I'm really losing hope. I'm thinking about how unfair the media was to Gore in 2000, how they acted as cheerleaders for the war in Iraq and "turned on" Dems in the 2002 elections and now how they are acting in the 2004 elections (Swiftboat Vets, etc.). Every election in the past four years the Dem Party has lost ground - thinks mainly to the media.

I'm beginning to think that as long as the media is this unfair and refuses to bring up issues that the Dem Party is just going to become endangered. We are just treading water....

The other problem is that Americans just don't seem to care. They are either not educated enough, are too lazy or don't really want to hear the truth.

Until there is some sort of social movement and people start caring and start asking questions and become angry I'm afraid we're just not going to get anywhere.

All we can do is just try our best. I'm really getting disgusted and worn out....

1. Uh... no...
voter registration is up, and the party (i.e. "us") hasn't been this fired up in years.

in 2000 we were in quite a coma, still intoxicated by the great years of Clinton. Then in 2002 we were hung over and confused -- and the GOP took advantage of that.

Now in 2004 we are awake, alert and pissed off!

The rank and file of the Democratic party is just fine today, thanks for asking!

2. The point is - can we fight the media and Amer. apathy?
We can have a million people who are fired up but if 70% of the population doesn't vote or is "brain dead" or apathetic or naive enough to fall for all of the Bush bullshit can we win?

3. Yeah we can win...
Look... we technically "won" last time and that was with some really bad apathy. This time, there are a lot more of us out there. Look at the size of the rallies that Kerry has been having. I'm hearing numbers like 8,000... 10,000... 15,000... 18,0000!!!! In Ohio no less! That never happened under Gore!!

I don't think 70% of the voting age population will be staying home this year. (Remember when you look at voting numbers you have to take into account 1/4 of the nation being under 18 and can't vote)

And those who do stay home, well... we don't have to worry about them voting for Bush now do we?

Its the "brain deads" (as you call them) that we have to watch out for. These people need to be shown the light, which is no easy task.

My sister-in-law, for example, is one of these people. She's a Bush supporter because her partner at work says so. She's so lazy that she doesn't seek information, instead she waits for someone to hand it to her. If nobody tells her what's happening in the world, she generally doesn't know!

She thought that it was Bush's tactical genius that won us a stunning victory in Afghanistan. She thought that Saddam and OBL actively planned and executed the attacks on 9/11. She thought that OBL was actually Saddam's puppet and hatchet man! (I'm not making this up) She thought that W's tax cut was a good idea, even though she didn't see a dime from it. She has no idea about the so-called "clean water act" or the "clear skies initiative" She had no idea about the No Child Left Behind Act, and how its taxed and drained our public schools. She had no idea what the PATRIOT ACT is except that it was supposed to let the FBI go hunting terrorists in the Middle-East (that's not a joke either!)

And she's a registered voter, who plans on going to the polls and exercising her native born right to vote. Scary huh?

My sister-in-law is the person we need to work on, and believe me, she's undergoing a crisis of faith right now. On the one hand her co-worker is spouting a whole bunch of lies, and on the other is my wife handing her facts and actual news from legit news outlets (NYT, AP, Reuters, WP, MSNBC and so on) And so we are swinging her over to vote Dem.

Also, my father-in-law -- a die hard Republican, will not be voting for Bush this year. Not after he learned that the new draft that the GOP has put down qualifies everyone of his children and sons-in-laws!!! The idea that his girls and their husbands could be whisked off and go to war after November has really pissed him off!

Trust me.... help is on the way!

4. It's just so discouraging to hear about Kerry falling in the polls.

I've gone past the point of being angry about this swift boat thing and am now just disgusted. Guess I'll perk up when Kerry's number go back up.

Just wish I could move out of this country - it truly sickens me to see this crap.
