August 9 was his last press briefing, which the White House website always provides video for. All he's done since is gaggles, briefer briefings that don't get recorded.

I need my watching-Scotty-squirm fix! Transcripts just don't do it.

Seriously, though, why the extra-lengthy absence?

There've been a lot of times recently where he's refused to answer a question during a briefing because he interpreted it to be about the campaign. He was insistent that he would not answer such questions.

So, is the press secretary's role while campaigning different from his regular role? If not, just what is he doing hanging around with bush?

he is part of the WH staff and as such shouldn't comment on campaign issues. He's there to comment on chimpy's "job" as president not as bushit as the candidate
